Introduction:
Our client based in Reading, Berkshire is a leading supplier of engineering services to their prestigious client base. They are now looking for a Health, Safety Quality and Environmental Officer to join their team. The successful candidate will use their knowledge and skills to promote a positive Health and Safety culture in the workplace. You will be responsible for ensuring that employers and workers comply with safety legislation, safety policies and practices are adopted and adhered to both in the clients workshops, offices and customers sites across all branches. You will be responsible for implementing, monitoring and reviewing protective and preventative health and safety, quality and environmental measures. Please note this position is predominantly based in Reading, however it involves occasional travel throughout the UK, therefore candidates must be flexible.
This vacancy presents itself as an exciting opportunity for a person who has previously served in the Armed Forces i.e. British Army, Royal Air Force or Royal Navy with previous experience of Health & Safety management.
Responsibilities:
- Carrying out risk assessments such as fire safety, safe use of machinery, noise etc and considering how risks could be reduced, carry out regular reviews and recommendations. - Outline safe operational procedures which identify and take account of all relevant hazards. - Carry out regular site inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented, review and recommend. - Make changes to working practices that are safe and comply with legislation. - Prepare Health and Safety strategies and develop internal policy. - Lead in-house training with Managers and employees about Health and Safety issues and risks. - Keep records of inspection findings and produce reports that suggest improvements, recommendations and reviews. - Record incidents and accidents, providing reviews and recommendations and producing statistics for Managers. - Keep up to date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all Health and Safety Executive (HSE) legislation and any developments that affect the employer's industry. - Produce management reports, newsletters and bulletins. - Ensure the safe installation of equipment. - Manage and organise the safe disposal of hazardous substances, e.g. asbestos. - Advise on a range of specialist areas, providing reviews and recommendations e.g. fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery and occupational diseases. - Carry out regular environmental reviews and recommendations to analyse the clients environmental status such as carbon footprint, waste and fuel consumption, identify ways that this could be reduced and assist in setting up procedures and policies to action this.
Applicant Requirements:
Essential: - You must have a proven background within a Health & Safety management role. - Hold NEBOSH, CMIOSH qualifications or equivalent. - Previous working background within an engineering/manufacturing environment. - Experience of working to ISO 9001, 14001 and 18001 or Achilles would be advantageous. - Proactive approach towards the role. - Capability to review and implement solutions as required. - Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines. - Highly organised and ability to prioritise workloads. - Excellent communications skills. - IT Literate MS Office including; Word, Excel and Outlook.
