Our client is a diversified investment holding company with operations covering a broad spectrum of activities including logistics and transport, financial services, oil and gas, real estate development, telecommunications, trading and services.
Within its Logistics and Transport Division they are one of the Sultanate of Oman`s leading specialist logistics solutions providers.
With 4 operating companies in the division they specialise in Oil and Gas Logistics, Oil Rig Moving Services, Supply Chain Management and Freight Forwarding Services.
As part of their management succession planning within their Logistics and Transport Division, they are looking to recruit up to 4 Operations / General Managers who have the capability and ambition to become the General Managers of tomorrow! The roles will be offered on a 2 year renewable contract. Whilst the roles will nominally be based in Muscat, all roles will involve working in the interior at remote sites.
These roles represent outstanding opportunities for logistics and transport professionals who want to achieve General Manager / Business Unit Manager status in a safe overseas pro-western environment.
The reporting line may vary depending upon which company you will work for but the Group General Manager will undoubtedly be a close senior colleague who will take an overriding interest in your progression.
The role will be a mix of operational and contact responsibilities along with managing various projects.
The roles will be varied including managing sites and staff, visiting clients and office based work e.g reports, projects etc In addition you will have sufficient intellect to produce and critique management reports and brief senior management on projects and improvements.
You will be expected to deliver improvements in terms of driver attendance, vehicle utilisation, fuel consumption and cost per vehicle etc. as well as making sure all operational procedures are followed.
Some knowledge of current HSE techniques would be helpful.
The roles will nominally be based in Muscat however whilst working in the interior the work pattern will be 2 weeks on, one week off with the week off normally taken in Muscat.
Knowledge and Skills:
For these truly outstanding opportunities our client is seeking experienced third party logistics professionals operating at either Operations or General Manager level with a strong transport background.
Your work experience should ideally be supported by a qualification in a logistics, transport or operational doctrine. Degree preferred.
Experience of working in the oil and gas sector would be very beneficial.
With outstanding leadership ability and a strong customer focus, you will have the confidence to win credibility and make an immediate contribution.
Ideally you will have some experience of international transport operations, ideally gained in the GCC.
You should have a strong health and safety background.
A military background would be very useful.
You should possess excellent communication skills in English and ideally one other language and be able to adapt to rapid changes in a positive manner, work to tight deadlines and pay attention to the detail.
Superb communication skills and instant credibility are essential as you will be inter-facing with a number of people from different backgrounds, nationalities and religions.
You will be resourceful with a flexible outlook, have the ability to multi-task in order to handle competing priorities and be able to fit in to an international dynamic and multi-cultural environment.
Finally you should possess a Drivers Licence and be PC / IT literate. An international driving licence would be very useful
