Health, Safety and Environment are integral to the service our client provides, therefore it is the responsibility of each business unit to develop procedures and working practices that minimise the risk of accident and injury and maximise the quality of service.

The Health, Safety & Environment Manager (\"HSE Manager\") is primarily responsible for advising the business units on appropriate procedures and working practices.

The HSE Manager is a hands-on role responsible for undertaking a programme of internal audits that confirm the controls built into all the company`s procedures and processes (not just those affecting SHE matters) are effective and being properly applied.

Applications from suitably qualified ex-military personnel (Royal Air Force, Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Marines) are relevant for this position.

Main Responsibilities
*Provide advice and guidance on safe working practices and current safety legislation to all parts of the business. Ensure they have a code of safe working approved by the Board. Establish and run a programme of internal audit checks to ensure that policy is being adhered to. Inform the Board of any actions or behaviours that run counter to Safety, Health and Environment being integral to the service the company provides.
*Provide advice and guidance on HSE systems to all parts of the business. Ensure they have integrated HSE assurance into their business processes and systems. Establish a programme of internal audit checks to ensure that the controls are operating correctly and with the desired impact.
*Provide advice and guidance on working practices relating to environmental management. Ensure that all parts of the business have an appropriate code of practice on environmental matters.
*Run a programme of internal audit checks to ensure that all operational and financial controls are functioning correctly. Advise the process owner of improvements that might be made to enhance the control environment.
*Investigate and report on all accidents and incidents involving the company in which injury occurred. Similarly investigate and report on all occasions in which such an event was only avoided through good fortune or evasive action. Produce a report making practical recommendations as to how such events can be avoided thereafter.

Necessary Skills, Experience & Qualifications
*Excellent communication skills with an ability to focus all members of the company on the importance of their role and the team structure.
*A strong understanding of the Railway Network and its working practices, together with a sound understanding of Civils industry working practices.
*Significant experience of Accident Investigation.
*Extensive experience of Health, Safety, and Environmental management systems as well as planning and conducting audits in a multi-site environment.
*Relevant professional knowledge, maintained by attending customer or industry forums and by other means.
*Personal Track Safety.
*National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) qualifications, including good knowledge of relevant hazardous substances.
*Full British (EU) driving licence.
*Good written English and Numeracy skills.
