Our Client is a highly respected Independent Co-educational Boarding School located in South Cumbria. The School is a vibrant, demanding and supportive community which encourages pupils and staff to be involved in as broad a range of activities as possible. Due to continued growth of the School, they now seek to recruit an experienced Cleaning Manager. The role is permanent.
The Cleaning Manager will manage the day-to-day cleaning of all school buildings across both the schools two sites. The sites include approximately 80 buildings, many of which are old in style and require complex cleaning regimes.
The Cleaning Manager will report directly to the Domestic Manager. With assistance from the Cleaning Supervisors; the Cleaning Manager`s primary responsibility will be to ensure that high standards of cleanliness are delivered at all times across both sites.
Flexibility will be required in relation to working days and hours, in order to meet the demands of the role and to ensure that appropriate managerial cover is always available.
The role of Cleaning Manager is `hands on`, and will involve building and motivating teams to deliver outstanding cleaning standards. The Cleaning Manager will play an active role in the teams, and will when necessary and appropriate be expected to lead by example. The duties of the role will be wide and varied, However, at the heart of the job will be the following:
You will be responsible for the co-ordination, direction and monitoring cleaning staff in their duties.
You will make regular visits to buildings across both sites to monitor standards of cleanliness, implementing ways to improve and meet the evolving standards of the Schools.
You will be responsible for the planning and delivery of schedules for more specific needs such as deep cleaning and lettings, ensuring that cleaning timetables make full use of quieter periods, and provide for the delivery of cleaning services for special events such as parents` evenings and wedding functions.
You will work efficiently in partnership with the Matrons to deliver an individual cleaning service to each Boarding House.
You will be responsible for the day-to-day cleaning stock allocation and record keeping.
You will assist the Domestic Manager in the interview and selection of cleaning staff.
You will ensure all cleaning staff understand the standards of performance and specifics relevant to their area of operations (School buildings, Boarding Houses, Domestic properties etc.).
You will provide on-the-job training for all new employees, ensuring that required standards of work are met, particularly in relation to the operation of equipment, COSHH and manual handling.
You will carry out training with existing employees as required, in order to implement and maintain standards, to introduce new working practices and to ensure appropriate standards of health and safety are maintained.
You will monitor staff working hours and attendance, and reporting any deviations from planned hours to the Domestic Manager. Ensuring that appropriate action is quickly taken to cover any absences, whether planned or unforeseen.
You will assist the Domestic Manager in carrying out risk assessments in order to ensure safe systems of work throughout all cleaning activities and areas.
You will maintain supplies of cleaning materials in the central stores, and ensure materials are issued and delivered as requested by Cleaning Supervisors.
