Description :
The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for implementing simple adds, moves and changes to user services and for the delivery of complex bespoke user solutions. You will require the ability to plan, coordinate and provision user services and implement network change.

The Senior Network Engineer will have joint responsibility with other team members for the management of network capacity and infrastructure utilisation taking forecasts and historical trends to trigger change requests. You will jointly own infrastructure designs, site layouts, site engineering standards and all relationships with suppliers and vendors for the provision and management of network infrastructure.

Main Responsibilities:

*Planning and implementing physical and configuration changes to the network.
*Planning & delivering changes to existing services and new services.
*Providing support to the Operation Centre.
*Updating documentation and processes.
*Updating the management systems and any other tool used to document infrastructure and services.
*Carry out all work in accordance with the quality procedures.
*Carry out any other duties which Line Manager may reasonably request within the broad parameters of this role.
*Work safely at all times in accordance with the company`s and best practice Health and Safety Arrangements.
*Work unsupervised when required, maintain quality standards throughout within the budget and time allocated



Person Specification
Professional Skills, Experience & Knowledge Required

Essential

This is a technically challenging role which also enables the role holder to use their planning and co-ordination skills.

*Good understanding of ASM and SSM multicast routing. This includes a good understanding of how protocols like PIM, MSDP and IGMP work to a degree where knowledge can be used to identify and isolate multicast issues and suggest a rational solution.
*Good understanding of routing principles for ISIS and BGP
*Understanding of and ability to configure L2 and L3 services
*Experience of handling fibre optics and the knowledge to diagnose fibre optic issues
*Knowledge of how a technical solution is aligned with service support capabilities and the benefits of a well-defined framework to support an operational service. This includes understanding how a service support framework includes disparate areas such as System management, application management, network management, incident management and problem management.
*Understanding different RIB configurations on Juniper and how they interact.
*Experience in network planning and the production of network plans and infrastructure site designs
*Project management skills to understand project stages, project stakeholders and `exceptions` within a project environment.
*Experience of using Inventory Systems and Inventory management
*Ability to use Microsoft excel, word and Visio

Desirable

*Experience in working with MX platforms
*Experience of working on Infinera NMS - DNA
*Experience of JunOS and JunOS Space
*A basic understanding of how the tool `dbeacon` works. This includes a high-level understanding of the algorithms used by the tool.
*Conceptual understanding of service monitoring using SNMPs and central monitoring systems.
*Conceptual understanding of service transition procedures and an awareness of ITIL
*Conceptual understanding of Scope of Work (SoW), Tender proposal and Contractual Order of Precedence.
*Knowledge of optical transmission networks and lambda services

*Able to communicate effectively with users, suppliers and vendors. It is paramount to be able to respectfully communicate to technical and nontechnical individuals and have an appreciation and acceptance of cultural differences
