We are working directly for an associate recruitment and HR consultancy based in Christchurch, New Zealand.
They currently have a number of clients who are seeking Accountants and Auditors. Vacancies exist at all levels and are mainly in Christchurch although opportunities do exist in other parts of New Zealand. The roles are permanent.
You will remember that in February 2011, Christchurch NZ was damaged by a major earthquake.
Christchurch is now being rebuilt and this involves spending $30bn to $40bn over the next 5 - 10 years. The new city plan looks fantastic http://ccdu.govt.nz/, the-plan but there is still lots of work to do.
The key message is that as part of the rebuild there are lots of opportunities for people to advance their career and interestingly the rebuild in Christchurch will drive significant GDP growth, while the rest of the world struggles its way out of the recession.
At the moment, with numerous construction projects underway there is a lot of demand for construction personnel, but equally the rebuild requires Accountants and Auditors. As you will appreciate you can`t spend $30bn without a considerable financial analysis, strong financial controls, project accounting, management reporting and the audit functions. Also we are seeing increasing corporate finance activity as businesses position themselves to be part of the rebuild.

We are seeking expressions of interest from Qualified Accountants with 4 plus years` experience who will consider either 2 year working holidays or potentially the opportunity to relocate to New Zealand on a longer term basis.
Christchurch is the primary commercial centre for the South Island and so in the chartered accounting sector our client has a full representation of the big four international practices along with the majority of the 2nd tier practices.
In addition Christchurch has some significant local accounting firms who target a significant SME business sector and so can offer some challenging accounting and advisory roles as well as more specialised roles in areas such as tax advisory.
The roles offered are with both the big four, Ernst Young, Deloittes, KPMG and PWC as well as 2nd tier international and larger local accounting practices.
The available opportunities are typically at Senior Accountant/Auditor level and can be either financial reporting or management accounting / analyst based, through to Manager level where our clients looking to target Accountants and Auditors who have that minimum of 4 years` experience through to candidates who may have taken that next step so will bring more client management and staff leadership skills at that manager level.
Knowledge and Skills:
Candidates should be accomplished Accountants and either ACCA or CIMA qualified Accountants.
Candidates should have a minimum of 4 years’ experience in their field.
Candidates must be IT / Pc literate with well-developed spreadsheet skills.
You should possess excellent communication skills in English, able to adapt to rapid changes in a positive manner and work to tight deadlines.
Superb communication skills and instant credibility are essential as you will be inter-facing with a number of people from different backgrounds, nationalities and religions.
These are outstanding challenges for accomplished Accountants looking for something different.
Salaries will vary depending upon experience. For Senior Accountants 65,000 – 90,000 NZD, for Associates / Senior Associates ( Big Four) 75,000 – 100,000, Managers / Directors ( Big Four ) – 100,000 – 130,000 NZD and Managers and Senior Managers for 2nd Tier / Local Firms – 95,000 – 120,000 NZD.
Typically the remuneration packages offered are primarily a base salary but more and more we are seeing the senior roles also being offered incentive/at risk components based on individual and firm performance. Included in packages will be payment of professional fees and all required professional development training plus employer superannuation contributions.
Candidates are expected to fund their own relocation and should therefore have around £2000 – £3000 available to cover flight costs, visa costs and relocation costs etc.
