Description :

We are working directly for an associate recruitment and HR consultancy based in Christchurch, New Zealand.
They currently have a number of clients who are seeking Intermediate Quantity Surveyors to work in New Zealand.  The work will be on commercial and residential rebuild project in Christchurch although opportunities do exist in other parts of New Zealand.   The roles are permanent.
Our client is looking to recruit an additional Quantity Surveyors but equally will consider candidates who are at an intermediate level, but believe that have what it takes to step up, and accept responsibility as part of the onsite project management team.
Working with the guidance of a Commercial Manager or Senior Quantity Surveyor , you will report to the Project Manager, and be responsible for a range of costing analysis/estimating, trade letting and invoice/claim preparation, variance pricing and reporting on a larger sized commercial construction project.
You will prepare tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities with the Architect and/or the client.
You will undertake costs analysis for project work.
You will assist in establishing a client`s requirements and undertake feasibility studies.
You will perform risk and value management and cost control.
You will advise on procurement strategy.
You will identify, analyse and develop responses to commercial risks.
You will prepare and analyse costings for tenders.
You will allocate work to subcontractors.
You will provide advice on contractual claims.
You will analyse outcomes and write detailed progress reports.
You will value completed work and arrange payments.
You will maintain awareness of the different building contracts in current use.
You will have an understanding the implications of health and safety regulations.

Knowledge and Skills:

You will ideally be an experienced Quantity Surveyor but as stated above our client will consider candidates who are at an intermediate level.
Your practical experience should be supported by a qualification in quantity surveying or in construction or equivalent.
In seeking applications our client is looking for Quantity Surveyors that have gained that solid base of experience, who can demonstrate good technical skills, all round computer systems knowledge and strong attention to detail.
Previous experience in the commercial construction sector is essential.
Candidates can have PQS background but there is stronger demand for candidates with site based construction experience and candidates with estimating experience.
You will be experienced in the planning of major projects with particular emphasis on the utilization of computer programs.
You will be experienced in claims/arbitration procedures and methods in that you are able to prepare, present and negotiate contractual claims.
You will have excellent inter personal skills, in order to promote the company’s core values and culture.
You will be able to demonstrate competence in the areas of Health and Safety.
You will need to be very competent in managing the paper/communication trails, but will be aided by working with very strong business systems that allow you to control both internal and external processes.
As part of the wider team you will have the opportunity to work alongside and learn from a talented crew and advance your career working on interesting and challenging projects.
You should be self-motivated, someone who enjoys dealing with people and who can show appropriate use of their own initiative.
You will have a high level of initiative, problem solving and will be someone who pays attention to the detail and highly organised.
You will have excellent time management, analytical skills and organisation skills.
You should possess excellent communication skills in English, able to adapt to rapid changes in a positive manner and work to tight deadlines.
Superb communication skills and instant credibility are essential as you will be inter-facing with a number of people from different backgrounds, nationalities and religions.
Finally you should possess a Drivers Licence and be PC literate with MS Office, e mail, the Internet.
This is an outstanding challenge for an accomplished and very experienced Quantity Surveyor looking for something different. There will be great scope for development within organisations that truly live up to the work hard and play hard philosophy.
Salary will typically be in a range of between 75,000 – 90,000 New Zealand Dollars (NZD).
Candidates are expected to fund their own relocation and should therefore have around £2000 – £3000 available to cover flight costs, visa costs and relocation costs etc.
