We are working directly for an associate recruitment and HR consultancy based in Christchurch, New Zealand.
They currently have a number of clients who are seeking Site Engineers for civil contracting and construction work in New Zealand. The roles are permanent.
The roles available will be working on large civil projects for large national construction companies but also for second tier locally based companies where you would be working directly for the owners of the company, so less corporate.
Successful candidates will carry out on site supervising the build process in conjunction with the Project Manager and Construction Site Manager.
The Site Engineer will take some of the responsibility for security, health and safety, and organising and supervising materials and people.
You will mark out the site, make sure designs are applied correctly and liaise with main and sub-contractors and the Construction Site Manager.
You will regular liaise with the Client, its Representatives, and any Consultants.
You will maintain an excellent corporate image and ensure customer satisfaction.
Knowledge and Skills:
You will be an experienced Site Engineer ideally with a Degree / Diploma in Building / Construction or in an Engineering discipline alternatively have relevant trade qualifications from a recognised trade, training college / school or university.
You must have civil contracting and construction experience and also have significant experience out on site supervising the build process.
You must be able to demonstrate a high level of competence in the areas of safety, workforce management, project execution, cost control, quality and administration.
You will have experience of new build construction.
You will have excellent leadership skills in order to promote the company’s core values and culture.
You will have strong commercial awareness.
You will have excellent knowledge in safety regulations appertaining to the construction industry.
You will have supervisory experience of tradespersons, and the ability to motivate and enforce western work practices and standards.
You will have the ability to motivate a team and be reliable and flexible.
You will have a high level of initiative, problem solving and decision making ability and will be someone who pays attention to the detail and highly organised.
You should possess excellent site management and communication skills in English, able to adapt to rapid changes in a positive manner and work to tight deadlines.
Superb communication skills and instant credibility are essential as you will be inter-facing with a number of people from different backgrounds, nationalities and religions.
Finally you should possess a Drivers Licence and be PC literate with MS Office, e mail, the Internet.
This is an outstanding challenge for an accomplished Site Engineer with civil contracting and construction experience looking for something different.
Salary will typically be in a range of between 85,000 – 100,000 New Zealand Dollars (NZD) for an experienced Site Manager. Most vacancies will come with a company vehicle and Kiwisaver.
Candidates are expected to fund their own relocation and should therefore have around £2000 – £3000 available to cover flight costs, visa costs and relocation costs etc.
