Our Client is a leading supplier to the foodservice sector in the UK, Ireland, France and Sweden. They are currently seeking a Distribution Manager to manage the distribution function at their depot in the Bristol area. The role is permanent.
The role of Distribution Manager is to provide overall leadership for all aspects of the distribution operation as well as supporting the overall requirements of the site.
Our client handles the storage and distribution requirements for several Blue Chip catering and hospitality and retail companies across frozen, chilled and ambient temperature ranges.
Managing a fleet of 35 LGV’s and a driving team of over 50 across a large geographical area, this demanding but exciting role requires the successful applicant to be experienced in the management of all aspects of a fast paced transport operational environment and able to demonstrate a detailed knowledge of transport legislation and its application within a multi drop operation.
Reporting into the Distribution Centre Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of the distribution operation at the Distribution Centre.
Specifically you will create and implement distribution centre operational plans, budget responsibility and KPI’s/performance targets.
You will drive outstanding levels of service to both internal and external customers, whilst being aware of cost implications.
You will exercise financial control within budgetary remit – contributing to distribution and operational efficiency.
You will be responsible for distribution colleague recruitment/retention /training.
You will be aware of your health & safety and legal obligations and will ensure the distribution operation adheres to our clients policies and procedures.
You will increase driver awareness to reduce accidents.
You will be actively involved in specified project management. 
You will be responsible for ensuring effective two way effective communication within the distribution department and cross functionally.
You will effectively manage all distribution assets.
You will be accountable for ensuring that all employees and vehicles are compliant with current transport legislation.
You will be responsible for effectively managing and motivating a large team of Drivers and support staff.
You will ensure high levels of customer service
You will establish a positive working culture, driving high levels of driver engagement.
You will be responsible for delivering against agreed budgets and KPI’s.
You will support the site for the management of the site facilities.
You will assist in the successful integration of new business.
Finally you will be responsible for the effective management of service contractors.

Knowledge and Skills:

To be successful in this demanding role you will need to be an accomplished Distribution / Transport Manager with intimate knowledge of the logistics industry within a multi temperature environment.
You should have proven leadership, management and change management experience in a distribution business and held a compromable management position in another logistics organization.
You will have strong financial and commercial acumen, high energy levels, and excellent customer relationship skills.  
Perhaps above all else, the ideal candidate will have highly developed interpersonal and leadership skills with an ability to motivate those around them to perform to the highest possible levels.
You will be a CPC holder with a National CPC and must have a strong knowledge of transport legislation.
Ideally you will have experience of managing service contracts.
You should have knowledge of HACCP.
You will have natural leadership qualities, previously managing significantly teams of around 30 Drivers through times of change, and be able to remain calm under pressure.
Your work experience should ideally be supported by a qualification in either a logistics or operational doctrine.
You should be experienced in change management and excellent inter-personal skills are essential as is an innovative and analytical approach.
Above all you must have the natural ability and courage to drive change, maintain morale and deliver results.
Ideally you will have an LGV licence but this is not essential.
You should be IT / PC and systems literate.
Basic salary will be around £36,000 – 37,000 per annum Other benefits include  25 days holiday plus bank and public holidays, pension and life assurance.
