Our client is one of the Sultanate of Oman`s leading specialist logistics solutions providers. They specialise in three core activities-Oil and Gas Logistics, Supply Chain Management and Freight Forwarding Services.
In addition to general cargo haulage services they operate storage and consolidation services and they specialize in moving land based drilling rigs.
They are seeking a Lift Superintendent to be based in Muscat, Oman. This is a contract role on a 2 year renewable contract.
Reporting into the General Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for planning operations that involve the use of equipment listed below to lift, place and transport heavy and oversize cargo by road throughout Oman.
You will produce project method statements and lifting plans as required by customers.
You will train and supervise a crew of Indians and Omanis - Drivers, Riggers and Helpers - probably ten people initially.
You will liaise with customers and define the parameters of the project and assist in the preparation of a quote.
You will interact with the other parts of the business to organise additional support as required.
You will manage the use of supporting cranes and forklifts and will manage and maintain heavy equipment including: Lifting shackles and slings, Heavy haulage tractors, Various pneumatic and extendable low bed trailers, Pneumatic jacks and associated beans, stools and packing materials and various other equipment to move and rotate heavy loads in a confined space.
You will also develop and represent this key area of our clients business.
You will ensure that all maintenance and repair work is carried out in the most cost effective manner but also in accordance with our clients procedures and to manufacturers specifications.
You will document repair and maintenance tasks completed, order spare parts and maintain related records.
You will ensure that all labour hours are properly accounted for and also ensure that all parts, supplies, tools and equipment are correctly accounted for.
You will maintain all equipment within scope to the very highest standards possible.
You will effectively manage your team of staff and will carry out your managerial responsibilities in accordance with our clients policies and applicable laws. Your responsibilities will include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
You will ensure that all work carried out is done in accordance with health and safety and security procedures.
Finally you will train and direct local national staff in applicable areas of performance in accordance with generally accepted industry and professional standards.
The role will involve travelling throughout Oman and frequent visits to our clients sites in the interior.
Knowledge and Skills:
You will be an accomplished Heavy Lift professional with team management experience with your practical experience supported by a recognised lifting qualification.
You should be experienced in the use of lifting shackles and slings, heavy haulage tractors, various pneumatic and extendable low bed trailers, pneumatic jacks and associated beans, stools and packing.
You will have the ability to motivate your team and be reliable and flexible. You should have the ability to work under pressure and be experienced in the maintenance of cranes and heavy equipment.
You will have a high level of initiative, problem solving and decision making ability and will be someone who pays attention to the detail and highly organised.
You should possess excellent communication skills in English and ideally one other language, able to adapt to rapid changes in a positive manner and work to tight deadlines.
Superb communication skills and instant credibility are essential as you will be inter-facing with a number of people from different backgrounds, nationalities and religions.
You will be resourceful with a flexible outlook, have the ability to multi-task in order to handle competing priorities and be able to fit in to an international dynamic and multi-cultural environment.
Finally you should possess a Drivers Licence and be PC literate with MS Office, e mail and the Internet.
