Description :
To plan and manage the servicing of all vehicles, plant and equipment to ensure they are compliant with legislative, Client and Company requirements. To plan and manage the workshop schedule to the servicing of vehicles and plant. To manage the schedule of work of service personnel (Fitters) to ensure best use of resources.

Applications from suitably qualified ex-military personnel (Royal Air Force, Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Marines) will be particularly relevant for this position.

Main Responsibilities
*To ensure that all vehicles, plant and equipment are subject to routine maintenance by competent service personnel at or before the service intervals prescribed in the relevant service instructions
*Ensure that all vehicles, plant and equipment are inspected in the statutory manner and at the required intervals
*Arrange attendance for breakdowns and recovery of equipment as necessary
*Prioritise and allocated service and repair work to the service personnel
*Order spares and consumable as appropriate to operational needs
*Maintain comprehensive records, both electronically and in hard copy, for each vehicle and item of plant and equipment to demonstrate the performance of all pre-hire checks, routine servicing, statutory inspection and breakdown repair
*Ensure that plant and vehicles are available to meet the Company`s commitments to it`s Clients
*Ensure the correct specification and supply of lifting accessories and that a register of all such equipment and it`s correct servicing is maintained
*Notify the Assurance & Compliance Manager of any new substances purchased and provide information of any associated hazards
*Help recruit and select fitting staff and manage and develop these staff on a daily basis
*Manage and control service expenditure within budget
*Maintain administration and planning and ensure proper and prompt reporting to other departments
*Ensure ongoing communication with Clients, outside agencies and Depot and Area Managers
*Maintain technical knowledge of fleet vehicles and plant, updating as necessary
*Assess the impact to the make of the Company`s fleet and provide suitable feedback to the management team
*Ensure that all site activities comply with Company procedures and standards for quality, environmental and health & safety management, Client and rail and legislative requirements
*To ensure that all errors, non-compliance and complaints are logged, raised and handled according to the Company`s QMS system

Other Interfaces
*To attend required safety briefings and ensure you understand the context and what is required of you
*To participate in drug and alcohol screening when required
*To suggest suitable modifications to any track plant that may enhance its performance or capabilities
*To ensure you are in possession of your personalised rule book at all times when on or near the track
*To comply with the Incident Plan of the Client or Main Contractor at all times and to report any incident in the approved manner
*To ensure you follow all control measures outlined in any risk assessment relating to the work you do
*To report any accident, incident or near miss in which you are involved or which you witness and to fully cooperate with any subsequent investigation
*To use the designated Personal Protective Equipment at all times as directed and to maintain it in accordance with the instructions provided, reporting any loss or damage in the required manner
*To ensure that you refuse to work on the grounds of safety whenever you believe that you have been placed in an unsafe situation or are given instructed to undertake an unsafe operation

Essential Skills
*Proven understanding and experience of the specifying, maintenance and inspection of vehicles and plant within scope
*Heavy plant experience, preferably with Tracked RRV experience
*Qualified or time-served fitter with heavy plant experience
*In-depth knowledge of the legislation and rules, regulations and requirements pertinent to vehicles, plant and equipment, especially to that used on the railway
*Strong people management and motivational skills, experience and ability
*High level of computer literacy
*Holds current driving licence

Desirable Skills
*Ability to operate RRV machines and attachments
*A1/A2 competency assessor
*PTS certification
