My client wishes to appoint a Groundsman/Maintenance person to join their team in Plymouth to be responsible for grounds maintenance and to carry out minor general repairs and to participate in small works projects as directed. The position involves participation in an out of hours on-call roster to offer support to duty staff relating to faults over the telephone and, if necessary attend onsite to deal with essential operational and safety issues.
On this occasion, my client is specifically interested in ex-servicemen and women, and you will have to have served in HM Forces to apply through this agency.
Main Responsibilities:
*To make a daily circuit to ensure grounds are clear of debris, litter, soiling, graffiti and weeds and that the estate is maintained to a highly presentable condition. To make checks of surface conditions to identify any potential or actual hazards. To assist with water cleansing making use of the harbour cleaning vessel as required.
*To carry out proactive and reactive general maintenance work in isolation or as part of a team as directed by the Facilities Manager or Maintenance Supervisor to ensure the fabric of the Estate is maintained in accordance with current safety regulations
*To carry out Health and Safety checks of the estate monthly in accordance with current guidelines, as well as maintain supporting records
*To assist appointed external contractors
*To recommend to the Facilities Manager/Maintenance Supervisor any essential maintenance requirements
*To carry out occasional overtime work as required and authorised by the Facilities Manager
*To ensure a high standard of housekeeping is maintained in all electrical and mechanical working spaces
*Maintain a tool inventory and reconcile tools on a weekly basis


Experience and Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have:

*a proven track record in grounds upkeep and general maintenance work
*Good team-working, communication and solid numeracy and literacy skills are essential
*the ability to work well in a team environment as well as on own initiative
*sound communication skills enabling the successful candidate to build a rapport with colleagues and customers alike
*experience of applying H&S legislation and committing to company H&S policies. the flexibility to turn your hand to anything to do with maintenance; pick up a paint brush, maintain small boats (small craft handling would be a distinct advantage), fix a fence or gate etc.
*a full UK Driving Licence (essential)
*you need to be a competent swimmer (essential)
It is desirable that you have some or all of the following: First aid certificate, forklift competence certificate, VHF competence certificate, Hi-ab user competence, evidence of competent boatmanship eg. RYA Powerboat Level 2.
40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 8am - 4.30pm (30 minute lunch break). Salary £19,000 (£9.13/h) pa. Good holiday, pension scheme and staff insurances.
