Our Client is a privately owned international logistics, construction, procurement and facilities management provider. They are specialists in providing their services in mining, oil and gas, post conflict, remote and other arduous environments.
Evolving from early roots in Africa over 40 years ago, our client has substantial experience providing integrated solutions and delivering comprehensive projects in mining, oil and gas and post conflict zones and developing countries and remote locations worldwide.
Headquartered in Dubai, they began serving clients in Afghanistan in 2002 and in the years since has grown into a large multifaceted firm, employing over 1,000 staff from 27 different nations. Today they manage projects in such locations as North Sudan, South Sudan, Sierra Leone, Kenya, Chad, Uganda and Somalia. They are currently seeking a Senior Planning Engineer to be based in Somalia, Africa. The contract is initially for 12 months with extensions depending upon performance.
As Senior Planning Engineer will provide a support function on a project/projects ensuring all Project Controls and Planning requirements of site management are maintained. As a Design Engineer you will be responsible for managing the design function and will co-ordinate between the client, construction and design and you will monitor the programme and ensure works are completed in a timely manner.
Specifically, in respect of preparing programmes, you will set up project calendars.
You will set up activities and coding with Construction Managers and will set up resource requirements using our client`s standard outputs.
You will sequence and link the required activities, within given milestones and will establish the critical path through the programme.
You will prepare information schedules in conjunction with the Construction Manager and you will prepare subcontract appointment schedules with the Construction Manager.
 In respect of progress monitoring and updates you will regular progress recording on site of actual progress and will record and report actual progress against target programme.
You will carry out preparation of required reports for Construction Managers.
You will interpret data and identify bottlenecks with Construction Managers.
You will predict completion dates and prepare \"Look-ahead\" reports.
You will monitor resources and Key Performance Index items (KPI`s), create baseline resource curves, record actual against planned on resource curves and KPI`s and will create records of actual progress of KPI`s.
You will liaise with Construction Managers regarding resource requirements.
You will examine and report on subcontract programmes and will ensure subcontract programmes are in line with site requirements.
You will monitor subcontract work against programmes and will report on subcontract progress to Construction Managers.
You will establish working programme requirements with Construction Managers and will prepare working programmes in consultation with site supervision.
You will monitor and report on working programmes and will revise working programmes where required by Construction Managers.
You will record delay items and link to relevant programme activities and will establish effect of delay items on programmes.
As Design Engineer you will understand the conditions of the contract with the client and will ensure all work is carried out to the specific requirements of the client.
You will be familiar with the BOQ for the contract and will oversee the receipt of IFC drawings and sketches.
You will review the RFI responses, and Engineers instructions.
You will receive and act on design changes and will complete work to the highest standard, ensuring a high quality product for the client.
You will authorise materials submittals and methods of work and will ensure all documents are stored and filed accordingly.
You will ensure document submittals are completed in a timely manner.
You will ensure all work is completed in compliance with the site HSE plan.
You will compile the weekly and monthly design reports for Senior Managers
You will complete the submittal planning and will delegate and oversee all tasks within the design team.
You will monitor work performance and motivate staff and will ensure the shop drawings are completed.
Finally, you will review design calculations, will support authority submissions where necessary and will review support work calculations


Knowledge and Skills:
You will be an accomplished Construction Design Engineer with significant experience as a Planning Engineer.
Your practical experience should ideally be supported by an engineering degree or building degree.
Experience of working in Africa is highly desirable.
