Annesley House is an essential part of PiC Midlands full care pathway for women and offers both low secure service, inpatient rehabilitation and a recently introduced specialised high dependency unit. Patients who will benefit include those stepping down from secure services, or stepping up from the community or rehabilitation. The aim is to prepare for step down transfer, either within PiC services, to other services and in the longer term, to the community.

The role:

The Lead Nurse will ensure systems are designed, implemented and monitored to ensure both efficient financial and clinical performance in the nursing department. The successful candidate will advise, support and educate nurses in their areas of service delivery and facilitate Continuous Professional Development and revalidation support and guidance for nurses. A Key output of the LN position is to maintain high profile leadership in areas of clinical governance and corporate governance as they impact on the nursing department and lead on recruitment and retention.

Our Lead Nurse role involves:

  • Providing operational leadership in the delivery of highest quality Nursing Services
  • Ensuring systems are designed, implemented and monitored to ensure both efficient financial and clinical performance in the nursing department
  • Advising, supporting and educating senior nurses in their areas of service delivery
  • Setting standards for the nursing services, reflecting and positively promoting the business of the hospital
  • Maintaining high profile leadership in areas of clinical governance and corporate governance as they impact on the nursing department
  • Contributing to the development of policies and procedures
  • Liaising with internal professionals
  • Personal time management
  • Monitoring performance of site senior nurses
  • Developing and delivering of Nursing Service Level agreements against key performance indicators
  • Developing co-ordinated nursing services that are responsive to the needs of patients, carers and all stakeholders in line with Service Agreements
  • Nursing Workforce forecasting and planning
  • Developing and delivering clinical and corporate governance targets within the Nursing Services
  • Contributing to PIC Midlands` strategic planning and advising the Hospital Director/Registered Managers on nursing issues
  • Developing internal/external customer service initiatives
  • Contributing to the achievement and retention of Investors in People benchmark standards
  • Achieving and retaining external, professional and educational networks
  • Developing and maintaining hospital operational reporting statistics for both internal and external analysis of the nursing department
  • Monitoring the impact of the Quality Improvement Strategy on the hospital`s business plan
  • Actively contributing to the development and implementation of Partnerships in Care quality initiatives
  • Actively supporting the implementation of Clinical Audit Programmes
  • Actively supporting and monitoring the CPD for all nursing staff
  • Ensuring the nursing department complies with the requirements of the National Care Standards Act at all times
  • Ensuring that nursing services meet the requirements of the Mental Health Act 1983 and acting as a source of advice to other departments
  • Monitoring nursing services policies and procedures, ensuring adherence with the Health, Safety and Welfare at Work Act 1974
  • Assisting in the development of effective recruitment and retention strategies to meet the hospitals staffing needs and to minimise turnover
  • Monitoring and controlling delegated ward budgets
  • Positively promoting the organisation through involvement in external professional groups
  • Keeping abreast of current DoH/NHS Guidance for provision of services
  • Actively promoting multi-disciplinary working
  • Participating and delegating on call arrangements
  • Providing leadership of Nursing Services ensuring highest possible professional standards
  • Managing resources within budget allocation
