Description :

Reporting to the Area Manager, the Schools Instructor has responsibility for the efficient and effective delivery of the Organisation`s training programmes. The Schools Instructor will be responsible for being a role model for young people, and the planning and delivery of high quality educational programmes ensuring students achieve their potential while improving standards in behaviour and attendance.

Main Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Planning and delivery of programmes to a high professional standard demonstrating the following:

the ability to create a safe, inclusive and stimulating learning environment for all students; effective planning and organising skills; creative and innovative approaches to delivery to engage learners; application of appropriate and effective teaching and learning strategies to ensure learner needs are met across a wide range of ages and abilities; behaviour management strategies that ensure positive participation by learners

  • Ensure the planning and delivery of activities in the classroom or on residential courses, external trips, expeditions and income generation projects are risk assessed to ensure the safety and welfare of students
  • Ensure all internal and external activities conform to Health & Safety policy, procedures, guidelines and regulations
  • Responsible for the timely completion of all required data relating to student`s ensuring data is maintained/updated regularly on the organisations knowledge management system
  • Committed to safeguarding and child protection, reporting any concerns immediately through the appropriate school and the Organisation`s policies and procedures
  • Responsible for carrying out internal moderation of students work to ensure a high level of quality and expected standards being met prior to submission for external moderation
  • Maintain strong relationships with colleagues, customers, external partners and any other relevant stakeholders to aid retention and to identify new business opportunities
  • Attend and actively participate in parents evenings, options evenings and other events as required by the organisation or schools
  • Ensure all programme and personal administration is carried out to a high standard and in a timely manner
  • Have a clear commitment to personal learning, training and professional development, keeping up to date on new and changing areas of policy and practice in relation to teaching and learning
  • Act as a positive ambassador in line with the Charity`s Code of Conduct ensuring compliance with the Charities governance, policies and procedures and addressing any areas of non-compliance immediately

 

Knowledge / Skills / Experience

Essential:

  • Educated to A level or equivalent with proven literacy and numeracy at level 2
  • Previous experience in an instructional or teaching role
  • Experience of producing schemes of work and lesson plans
  • Experience of planning and risk assessing educational activities
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office applications and experience of using databases
  • Proven experience maintaining high performance in a challenging environment
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Must be competent in planning and organising own workload working, at times, to tight deadlines
  • Willing to undergo criminal record checking every three years
  • Prepared to undertake out of hours CPD, training/personal development and attend team meetings as required
  • Willing and able to use own car for Charity business  including the transportation of equipment (ensuring appropriate insurance is in place)
  • Able to attend residential activities which will require overnight stays and/or out of school activities i.e. after school clubs, parents evenings
  • Attend and participate in the Charity`s annual Communication and Training event (3 day event held every April)

Desirable:

  • Holder of the Level 3 Award in Education and Training or equivalent
  • Ideally will have experience of instructing/teaching children
  • D1 driving licence holder (not essential)
  • Outdoor pursuits qualification - Basic Expedition Leader or Lowland Leader preferred
  • Civilian accredited First Aid qualification
  • Experience of working effectively wit
