Cragston Court is a purpose built facility providing a full recovery pathway for Residents who have enduring mental health needs.  The unit consists of a 20 bedded nursing/residential home for ages ranging from 18 to 65 and above of mixed gender.

The unit promotes recovery to the highest standard by using the tools of the recovery star and the involvement of other professionals in order to help residents along their journey of recovery. We provide 24-hour support for people with mental health care needs with a focus on encouraging daily living skill and independence. 

The role:

To assist the Home Manager to provide a 24-hour dynamic and innovative service for mentally ill service users who require continuing assessment, care, treatment and rehabilitation in a non-secure setting.

Outline of duties:

Clinical

  • To plan, implement and monitor individual and group programmes of care.
  • To monitor standards of care.
  • To audit care.
  • To contribute to the therapeutic milieu and rehabilitation programmes of the whole home.
  • To provide a positive role model.
  • To direct and supervise the work of the RMN nursing staff team in a developmental way.
  • To develop and maintain excellent relationships with other agencies both internal and external.
  • To work to high standards and to communicate effectively.

Educational

  • To develop him/herself on Learning and management programmes and to implement programmes of education for the team, students and others.
  • To provide l -1 supervision and appraisal.

Managerial

  • To plan daily work schedules, rosters, holidays and to ensure the smooth running of the facility.
  • To assist in ordering medical supplies, maintenance of medical and environmental audits and therapeutic activity materials within agreed budgets.
  • To provide on-call cover.
  • To assist in the recruitment, induction and development of new staff.

Legal

To be aware of all legislation that applies to the home, its clients and staff.  To ensure that all legislative requirements are met in line with Company Policies.  To contribute to the training of staff in legislative requirements.  (E.g. Mental Health Act, NICE guidelines, RCN, Health & Safety, employment law and UKCC guidelines). 

Quality

The Deputy Manager will work closely with the Home Manager to achieve the highest possible standards of rehabilitation for this client group.  This applies to the social and structural milieu, the environment, communication, standards of care and relationships maintained by staff and teams.  The post holder will contribute to internal quality assurance, external quality assurance and to monitoring by the Health Authority and contractual partners.

There will be ample scope and opportunity for the Deputy Manager to introduce his/her own innovative quality initiatives.

The Deputy Manager and Manager will work together with staff and clients to develop and implement quality improvement strategies within the homes business plan key objectives. 

The Deputy will be sensitive to the needs of the local community and will ensure that staff and clients act responsibly in this respect. 
The Deputy will assist the Home Manager in marketing and building relationships with local Healthcare bodies e.g. Commissioners and CQC.  The Deputy will also undertake any other reasonable duties commensurate with the role.

Person Specification:

The successful candidate will be an experienced RMN with a valid pin within the mental health field. He/she will be able to demonstrate high standards of care and the ability to meet the roles described above.  A good knowledge of the community care act will be useful.  He/she will be keen to develop managerial skills; will be a good organiser and a skilled communicator.  It is essential that the post holder has a pragmatic approach to risk assessment and is comfortable with the client group and being pro-active to keep up with self-development within the clinical and management fields.
