Calverton Hill provides care and treatment within a medium secure environment for men and women aged 18 years and older, with learning disability and women with mental illness and/or personality disorders. This is a purpose built facility that consists of:

The Speech and Language Therapist`s primary caseload will be mostly comprised of patients with a Learning Disability, however, non Learning Disabled patients who suffer from personality disorders, mental illness and Autism Spectrum Conditions may also be referred to SLT. All patients are detained under the Mental Health Act. Referrals are taken from many sources including psychiatric hospitals, prisons and courts.
The workforce of the organisation is multidisciplinary; a significant proportion of those are employed within the clinical disciplines, with other departments providing support services.
As a Speech and Language Therapist (SLT), you will be expected to provide speech and language assessment, treatment and support to patients across the region with regards to communication and dysphagia. You will be expected to plan, prepare, deliver and evaluate specific therapy groups, treatment sessions and therapeutic interventions.
You will be expected to provide specialist clinical input into the regional treatment pathways for men and women with a range of clinical diagnoses such as Learning Disabilities, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Mental Illness and Personality Disorder. The SLT will liaise with clinical teams across these pathways, including members of Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Nursing, Psychiatry and Social Work.
The SLT will supervise and direct Speech and Language Therapy Assistants across the region and will advise and support staff and relevant professionals regarding the care and management of the patients` communication and dysphagia.
You will also be expected to motivate and engage patients with a range of communication difficulties including difficulty producing and using speech, difficulty understanding language and difficulty using language.
