Ty Cwm Rhondda is a 20-bedded low secure mental health facility offering high-quality assessment, treatment and rehabilitation services for men with complex mental health needs, serious mental illness including treatment-resistant presentations, and challenging behavior.

The role:

To work as an OT as part of an MDT, contributing to clinical discussions re service user needs. Assessing and identifying occupational needs and providing OT interventions on a 1:1 and a group basis. 

Key responsibilities:

  • To provide occupational therapy assessment and treatment to enable service users to achieve their maximum levels of functional independence and to enhance their sense of well being through engagement in occupation.
  • To implement a Recovery based approach.
  • To have a working knowledge of a range of assessment tools suitable for the allocated clinical area.
  • To devise and deliver a review of treatment plans including individual and group interventions.
  • To identify and assess potential in the community, to assess, identify and manage the risks posed by occupations on/off the wards.
  • Assess and provide environmental adaptations to facilitate daily living.
  • Working with the MDT/TDT devise treatment plans, contribute to ICRs and External CPAs, including writing reports as needed.
  • To adhere to HCPC and COT Practice Guidelines.
  • To provide comprehensive initial and continuing occupational therapy assessments, according to agreed model and in accordance with CPA guidelines and service user care plans.
  • To liaise closely with other members of the clinical team, demonstrating a commitment to effective team work.
  • To ensure contemporaneous, written and electronic record and activity data are maintained in accordance with professional and service standards.
  •  To ensure effective communication is maintained with all service users, care and any staff involved in the service users’ care.
  • Contribute towards the service users activity records, through attending ICR’s, CPA and PathNav meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or  Degree (Hons) in Occupational Therapy
  • State registration with HCPC
  • Post Graduate qualification
  • Driving Licence

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Has completed preceptorship or competency framework or equivalent.
  • IT literate.
