Lakeside View is a locked rehabilitation and recovery service for women aged 18 - 25 years old requiring a positive environment to stabilise the symptoms of mental illness. They are looking for a technical Instructor to assist the Occupational Therapist in delivery of Occupational Therapy services to patients, to provide a flexible, patient focused service to all referred patients, in relation to Occupational Therapy interventions. The role will be Part of an expanding therapy services directorate including Occupational Therapy, Education, Horticultural therapy, Sports and Leisure opportunities.

Our Technical Instructor role involves:

  • Develop rapport with patients to encourage their interests and motivations to participate in Occupational Therapy Services.
  • Participate in planning and evaluating Occupational Therapy programmes.
  • Facilitate flexible programmes that complement the patients assessed needs and requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with multi-disciplinary team to provide quality and safe interventions.
  • Adhere to a patient focused approach, appreciating the need to work with, rather than for patients.
  • Act as part of the Occupational Therapy team.
  • Comply with work and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Produce and maintain appropriate standards of documentation.
  • Undertake administrative duties as required.
  • Promote the role of Occupational Therapy within the hospital.
  • Undertake relevant training to gain a working knowledge of Occupational Therapy theories and practise, as directed by the manager of the service.
  • Keep statistical records as required.
  • Undertake all necessary documentation as required to contribute to the CPA process.
  • Undertake annual statutory training.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of Occupational Therapy equipment and associated resources/environments.
  • Involved in the on-going development and promotion of the Occupational Therapy service to the hospital and contribute to the development and annual objectives of the Occupational Therapy service.
  • Attend regular supervision sessions, displaying a pro-active approach to the supervision model.
  • Work within the boundaries of confidentiality set down with the hospital policies.
  • Any other duties as required by the manager of the Occupational Therapy service.
  • Be conversant with PIC policies and procedures. Ensure their requirements including specified standards are met appropriately.
  • Maintain confidentiality and respect of the Company Business Plan, particularly regarding enquiries from outside agencies.
  • Ensure a safe working environment for staff and visitors within the company health and safety policy guidelines.
  • Liaise with other members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure consistent high quality care standards for all patients.
  • Maintain an accurate and up to date record of continuing professional development.
  • Complete all mandatory training as specified by the company/Head of Department
  • Share information following the attendance of courses and complete evaluation documentation.

To be successful as a Technical Instructor you`ll need:

  • Good standard of GSCE inc Maths and English (Essential)
  • Ability to work with individuals with mental health diagnosis
  • Have some experience of working in a similar position.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with people.
  • Ability to follow instructions, however show initiative where appropriate.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Ability to work within an Occupational Therapy philosophy.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • An ability to generate motivation in others.
  • Ability to pass on knowledge/demonstrate tasks to those who
