Description :

Purpose: To manage the welfare and safety of students living in the house managers hall of residence.

Duties -Academic year

o To provide breakfasts and hot evening meals, Monday to Friday inclusive. Breakfasts and evening meals to be served at appropriate times.

o To offer breakfast and a microwave platter for evening meals on Saturdays and Sundays.

o Summer school (8 weeks) To provide breakfasts and hot evening meals every day.

o To provide packed lunches at weekends.

o This includes menu planning and shopping for/ ordering of food provisions.

• To clean and hoover all common areas of the Hall once a day and to keep these areas and the kitchen at a level of hygiene and cleanliness to pass OFSTED/ ISI/ British Council inspections and those of Quality Care Inspectors (and others if the need arises).

• To clean and hoover all students rooms once a week.

• Deep cleaning of all areas and equipment each term.

• To change all students linen once a week.

• To watch over the welfare and discipline of all students in the Hall and to inform the employer of any worries or breaches of Hall regulations.

• To live in the Hall except during times of agreed holiday entitlement.

• To be responsive to the needs of students with differing religious beliefs, cultural backgrounds and dietary requirements when providing meals.

• To protect and take care of the companys property and buildings to the best of his/her ability and report any damages.

• To conduct fire tests required by the Health and Safety Officer.

• To complete paperwork relating to student welfare, illness and medication.

• To accompany students to visits to the doctor or hospital if required.

• Responsibility for a food allowance and the balance of receipts on an end of month basis.

• To understand key policies relating to accommodation and welfare.

Duties predominantly take place from Monday to Friday but house managers are also expected to be in the hall from 2200 -1000 on weekend evenings. House Managers can take two weekends off per term, which means that they can leave the hall for the entire weekend. Holidays, which are paid, must be taken at Christmas (3 weeks), Easter (2 weeks) and after the summer term (end of August/ early September (2 weeks).

Salary: Package equal to £32,000 per annum. This comprises £20,000 a year salary + accommodation, utilities and meals with a value of £12,000 per annum. The role works particularly well when the House Managers partner also lives in the accommodation provided (free of charge), whilst earning a salary elsewhere. The college is committed to safeguarding and a full DBS check will be required.
