Mildmay Oaks is a low secure and locked rehabilitation service for men with learning disability and autism spectrum disorder, and for women with learning disability. 

Our Rehab Technician role involves:

  • Plan and deliver activities for patients which promote social inclusion in line with their care pathway.
  • Where appropriate, assist members of the Recovery Team in the delivery of therapeutic activities, such as occupational therapy, speech and language therapy and psychology
  • Complete risk assessments for planned activities and suggest risk management plans.
  • Work with all members of the Recovery Team to develop comprehensive and inclusive activity timetables for the wards.
  • Observe patients` engagement with activities and maintain written records, recording and reporting on patient`s progress within the CAREnotes system.
  • Work within the Outcome Star model to support patients in achieving agreed goals.
  • Apply \"My Shared Pathway\" principles in order to deliver patient-led care.
  • Assist patients in contributing to the organisation their Care Programme Approach Meetings.
  • To apply evidence based practice in order to compare, analyse and critically evaluate interventions.
  • To work according to company policies and procedures and in compliance with key legislation e.g. Mental Health Act, Valuing People.
  • Demonstrate inclusive activities to the Healthcare Workers and support them in then undertaking these activities with patients. Provide feedback to Nurse Managers with regards to the effectiveness of the patient activity work undertaken by Healthcare Workers.

As part of your role you may be required to assist in the management of challenging situations including the management of violence and aggression. In those situations you may be required to utilise physical means managing the situation through `management of violence and aggression` techniques.  As a result you will be required to undertake the preparatory training. 

To be successful as Rehab Technician, you`ll need:

  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent in Health & Social Care or other relevant subject, or relevant experience with a demonstrable track record of directly relevant experience.
  • Ability and desire to obtain both underpinning knowledge and NVQ qualifications combined with a commitment to undertake Continuing Personal Development
  • Ability to listen effectively and communicate effectively at all levels
  • Effective written communication skills to enable completion of records etc.
  • Empathy, compassion and patience
  • Ability to create innovative solutions to help empower patients
  • Ability to work alone in a range of settings
  • Ability to form positive therapeutic relationships with patients
  • Good basic IT skills
  • A keenness to make a positive contribution to improving the quality of life for people within the service
  • Ability to acknowledge diversity and promote anti-discriminatory practice/equal opportunities
  • Ability to provide practical support with daily living activities
  • An ability to act calmly in emergencies and to respond in a professional manner to stressful and challenging behavior
  • Nature of work is not always predictable and flexibility may be required outside of normal hours from time to time.
