The North London Clinic provides a full care pathway from medium secure, low secure to a locked rehabilitation wing. The full multidisciplinary team works with men who have a diagnosis of mental disorder and associated challenging behaviour.
The role:
The North London Clinic is seeking a Registered Clinical/ Forensic Psychologist to join its team for a six month fixed term period (maybe further extended if required).
The post-holder will be expected to contribute to local and national developments related to the assessment and treatment of those individuals within the service.
The successful candidate will be encouraged and supported in undertaking appropriate professional development as agreed with the (Regional) Lead Psychologist.
Duties and responsibilities:
- To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of clients under their care and to monitor progress during the course of both uni- and multi-disciplinary care.
- To comply with Hospital and Directorate policies and procedures, paying particular attention to those that concern the security and safety of both patients and staff.
- Undertake all duties in accordance with appropriate professional guidelines and the codes of practice and ethics issued by the British Psychological Society and Health and Care Professions Council.
- Apply equal opportunities principles at all times and participate in training activities and Individual Performance and Development Reviews.
- To be subject to an annual individual performance review and attend appraisal meetings with the responsible psychologist, to set and review work objectives, and identify training needs.
- To be able to demonstrate participation in the development of a psychology service within a need-led, evidence-based practice framework.
- To ensure that professional skills and knowledge are kept up to date by accepting supervision from other psychologists and participating in continuing professional development.
- To participate in other hospital meetings and activities as required.
- To contribute to the professional functioning of the Psychology Department within the hospitals, to include attendance at business meetings and CPD events.
- To undertake additional tasks as requested by the Regional Head of Psychology

Communications and working relationships:
- Liaising with ward staff, consultant psychiatrists, social workers, therapy staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Liaise with psychologist colleagues, in particular those within the relevant associated Services across the company
- Liaise with a range of individuals from other services, including independent sector hospitals, community teams, NHS and HM Prison Service
Key Result Area 1 - Service Provision:
- To provide specialist psychological assessments
- To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a client`s psychological problems, drawing on a range of psychological models. This may include a range of modalities (individual, family and group including service network). It will also be adapted and tailored to the needs of the individual and the context, and informed by ongoing evaluation of the effects of the intervention.
- To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals within and across teams, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses.
