Mildmay Oaks is a low secure and locked rehabilitation service for men with learning disability and autism spectrum disorder, and for women with learning disability. 

Our Lead Occupational Therapist role involves:

  • Providing Occupational Therapy assessment and treatment for an allocated caseload of patients
  • Participating in comprehensive assessments of new patients, following the assessment pathway for Mildmay Oaks
  • Completing a range of Model of Human Occupation standardised assessments.
  • Enabling patients to address specific needs in relation to health and well-being, respecting their dignity, wishes and beliefs and involving them in decision making and goals that are meaningful to them as part as their recovery
  • Identifying and assessing potential risks involved in occupations and activities, for example outside of the ward and in the community, and taking appropriate action
  • Assessing and providing environmental adaptations to facilitate daily living
  • Devising and carrying out treatment plans taking into consideration risk factors and grading of activities
  • Using goal-setting with patients to ensure effective treatment and as an OT outcome measure
  • Contributing feedback to clinical discussions and the weekly clinical team meetings
  • Carrying out individual sessions on/off the ward and in community settings
  • Gaining experience of working in open and closed groups on and off the ward
  • Working alongside and supervising support staff in the delivery of the ward programme
  • Engaging and communicating effectively with patients, using a range of communication strategies, taking into account barriers of communication e.g. cognitive impairment, physical and sensory impairments
  • Keeping up to date and accurate clinical records, maintained in accordance with professional and departmental standards, to provide a clear record of intervention of the OT service and ensure confidentiality is maintained
  • Evaluating interventions informally after each session and through regular review reports
  • Attending CPA’s and provide a formal written and verbal report
