Woking Priory is set in idyllic countryside and yet is within reach of central London and both regional airports by either car or public transport. The hospital provides residential treatment for up to 36 adults and also has a strong day and outpatient programme including a range of therapeutic approaches such as CBT, Interpersonal Therapy, Psycho-education, Art Psychotherapy and EMDR

Job purpose:

The Priory Hospital Woking has placement vacancies for both training and qualified volunteer counsellors to join its therapy department.

Person Specification

Candidates need to meet the following criteria: To be in a training programme at Diploma or Masters level with a minimum of 100 client hours.  Able to work as a member of the clinical multi-disciplinary team, computer literate (Microsoft Office and Microsoft Word).  Open to training, learning and receiving supervision.  Able to write clear and concise notes and remain in compliance with all required documentation.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • Observe or co-facilitate relevant groups as instructed by the therapy team
  • Hold one-to-one therapy sessions with clients as instructed by the therapy team
  • Undertake risk assessments as instructed by the therapy team
  • Assist in allocated admin tasks
  • Ensure that all client interventions and assignments have a clear clinical rationale
  • Participation in clinical meetings
  • Be available for all training requirements (internal and external)
  • Check and respond to emails and phone messages promptly
  • Maintain all ethical standards and requirements stated in  the Priory Employee Handbook
  • To attend supervision meetings at agreed intervals
  • To undertake not to reveal any confidential information about The Priory Hospital Woking or its clients either during or after the period as a counsellor trainee.
  • To ensure continuous self-assessment and self-development
  • To take reasonable steps to maintain health and safety at work at all times
  • Trainees must maintain appropriate professional boundaries at all times

Guideline for Trainees

  • The Priory Hospital Woking requires a six month commitment or more for the placement.
  • All Trainees must abide Priory policy and procedures
  • Safeguarding the client`s right to confidentiality must be of primary concern at all times.
  • Surnames should not be mentioned in public or written in the diary.  It is Priory`s policy not to divulge information regarding or obtained from a client to a third party without the express permission of the client.  Any exceptions to this policy are outlined in the Employee Handbook
  • All Trainees will be required to read the Staff Policies and Procedures Manual.  This will be provided by Priory
  • All Trainees will require a DBS check before commencing training at The Priory Hospital Woking.
