Llanarth Court Hospital is a 114 bedded  forensic hospital providing a secure environment consisting of medium, low and open rehabilitation settings  for men and women with mental illness and or personality disorder.

The role:

As part of our nursing team you will assist and support the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of patients in the unit and on community trips. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team under the direct supervision of a qualified nurse you will be required to undertake a range of duties involving direct patient contact and interaction.

As a Healthcare Worker you will be working within a team, which includes a range of professionals. You will make an effective contribution to providing high quality care within a medium secure forensic setting.

The patient group consists of personality disordered individuals and those experiencing enduring mental illnesses. You will need to take a positive approach to the management of challenging behaviour ,  

Be a positive role model to patients and demonstrate an understanding of their needs. You will need to undertake mandatory training and adhere to physical, relational and procedural security of the hospital

You will work within an identified career development pathway and be expected to complete appropriate competency development portfolios.

Key duties:

  • Undertake a range of activities of daily living including basic nursing care, social and recreational activity and health promotion
  • Recognise the value of care and treatment plans and work within these plans
  • Support and assist the qualified nurses in the delivery of quality care
  • Promote independence and encourage patient involvement in their care .through effective communication.
  • Communicate effectively
  • Engage in therapeutic relationships

Role requirements/Qualifications:

  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work flexibility
  • Basic Literacy skills
  • Common sense approach to problem solving
  • Basic numeracy skills
  • Motivation and initiative
  • Some appreciation of Mental Health problems
  • Education to GCSE Standard
  • NVQ or equivalent would be an advantage.
