Woodlands View is a 31 bedded locked rehabilitation and recovery service for men requiring a positive environment to stabilise the symptoms of mental illness, and develop positive self-management and independent skills for a successful discharge into the community.

The role:

The role of the occupational Therapist plays an integral part in supporting our service users in their recovery and rehabilitation. Working collaboratively with the Patient and other members of the multidisciplinary team the occupational therapist will be responsible for the assessment of need and the formulation of effective and appropriate interventions that will support our service users achieve independence and thus reduce the length of admission
The occupational therapist will be responsible for leading a team of technical instructors ensuring that supervision , appraisal and mandatory training meets the organisational compliance.

Clinical

  • To develop rapport with patients.
  •  To provide comprehensive and needs led occupational therapy assessments.
  • To facilitate evidence based individual and group treatment programmes, with appropriate supervision.
  • To produce and maintain clinical documentation of a high standard that complies with PiC and COT guidelines.
  • To ensure professional standards of practice are demonstrated at all times, reflecting COT code of professional conduct.
  • To be conversant with policies and procedures, ensuring that their requirements including specified standards are adhered to appropriately.
  • To actively participate in the CPA process, to include verbal and written contributions.
  • To plan and regularly review occupational therapy programmes within the CPA framework.
  • To respect patients individuality, values, culture, religion and deliver a service sensitive to these needs.
  • To demonstrate an understanding of specific occupational therapy risk assessment and subsequent management strategies relevant to a secure environment.
  • To produce timely occupational therapy progress reports.
  • To assist in the delivery of the hospitals social events calendar. This may require occasional weekend working.

Administration/Organisational

  • Maintain confidentiality and respect of the company business plan, particularly regarding enquires from outside agencies.
  • Ensure a safe working environment for patients, staff and visitors within the company`s health and safety policy guidelines.
  • Undertake all aspects of the role of a members of the multidisciplinary team, to ensure consistent high quality care standards for all patients.
  • Participate in research based practice and initiatives under the guidance of the Director of therapy Services /Senior Occupational Therapists.
  • Actively contribute to the induction process of newly appointed staff.
  • To be innovative and proactive in developing occupational therapy contributions to the provision and development of Therapy Services.
  • Active participation in clinical and professional meetings.
  • Maintain accurate and up to date records, including statistical data.
  • Actively participate in audits, surveys, evaluation and research, as requested.
  • Assist in the supervision of other staff within therapy services.
  • To demonstrate an understanding of relevant national guidelines and legislation relating to health and social care and the impact on practice.
  • To assist in the regular and systematic review and evaluation of the Therapy Services.

Training/Development

  • Actively participate in clinical supervision and appraisal sessions.
  • Maintain an accurate and up to date record of continuing professional development, within a CPD portfolio, to HCPC standards including evidence.
  • Complete all mandatory training as required.
  • Undertake relevant training and actively seek further learning opportunities.
  • Share information following the attendance of courses and complete relevant evaluation documentation.
  • Promote and educate relevant staff regarding the purpose and role of occupational therapy, and therapy services as a whole.
