Knightsbridge House is a nine bed hospital in Fareham which provides assessment and treatment in an open rehabilitation setting for men with a learning disability and complex mental health needs.
Carard Cottage, within the main grounds, is a four bed detached house providing step-down accommodation for residents who are ready for greater independence and to put their skills for living into practice before they are discharged into community settings.
Key duties:
- Working alongside occupational therapy staff in the delivery of the ward programme
- Running planned sessions independently or with other professionals.
- Enabling Service Users to address specific needs in relation to health and well-being, respecting their dignity, wishes and beliefs and involving them in decision making and goals that are meaningful to them as part as their recovery
- Identifying and assessing potential risks involved in occupations and activities, for example outside of the ward and in the community, and take appropriate action to manage these
- Carrying out individual sessions on/off the ward and in community settings as directed by the multi-disciplinary team
- Being involved in organising and facilitating special events and projects for Service Users e.g. celebrations, community outings.
- Reporting back on agreed aspects of assessment, such as observations in groups and in individual sessions on Service User`s physical, social and emotional well-being
- Keeping up to date and accurate clinical records, maintained in accordance with professional and departmental standards, to provide a clear record of intervention of the OT service and ensure confidentiality is maintained
- Having an adaptable and flexible approach to working within a team to manage the needs of the organisation and Service User care
- Participating actively in regular supervision with identified supervisor
- Documenting all clinical work in accordance with organisational policies
- Identifying therapy materials and equipment required and order stock
- Carrying out tasks related to evaluating services when asked
- Being aware of and work to organisational and ward policies and procedures.
- Being responsible for monitoring and maintaining the health and safety and well-being of Service Users- reporting any accidents, incidents or concerns regarding Service User care according to the organisation`s guidelines
- Maintaining quality in own work and encouraging others to do so
- Participating in Clinical Governance activities
- Participating fully in the organisation`s performance management and staff development systems
- Being responsible for promoting meaningful activity by guiding and supporting staff in the delivery of planned activities.
- Monitoring Service User` participation in activities and providing records for CPA meetings etc.
- Motivating and supporting Healthcare Workers in the delivery of activity programmes.
- Taking advantage of teaching and learning opportunities available; attending relevant courses; sharing information gained and skills learned with other members of the team
- Undertaking mandatory training as required
- Participating in the controlled management of violence and aggression training programme
- Being involved in educating staff and Service Users about the role of Occupational Therapy
- Assisting in the induction and training of new staff and students on practice placements
- Demonstrating good verbal and written communication skills through co-working with other professionals.
- Adapting communication to different situations and take into consideration barriers, such as cognitive impairment
- Demonstrating creativity and innovation and being involved in projects to improve the Occupational Therapy service and Unit Environment.
- Reflecting in supervision on dealing with difficult situations and critical incidents and changes required to improve own practice
- Keeping a record of learning activities
- Developing a personal development plan considering clinical and non-clinical issues
