Kent House is a 12-bedded Tier 4 low secure hospital for young people aged 12 - 18 years with mental health, behavioural or psychological difficulties, and an OFSTED-registered school which supports the young people with educational attainment.

The service is set in a rural environment with close links and transport to the local community and amenities.

We provide care for the young people admitted to Kent House Hospital in the least restrictive way and we adhere to the values and principles of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS). We are members of the Quality Network for Inpatient Camhs to measure and improve the quality of our care and treatment.

The role:

To provide quality catering services of the highest standard to young people and to maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in line with EHO regulations.

Main Responsibilities: 

  • To assist in food preparation, following Chef`s instructions and guidance
  • To assist in the serving of meals for patients, staff and visitors
  • To prepare trays and sandwiches for meetings
  • To keep the dining room clean during your shift
  • To wash and dry kitchen plates/pots/utensils and ensure their appropriate storage
  • To clean the kitchen area to a high standard and to complete daily schedule charts
  • To undertake accurate records of food supplies, and freezer / fridge temperatures for each span of duty.
  • To undertake accurate records of food temperatures at delivery, storage, cooking and serving for each span of duty.
  • Assist with deliveries ensure stock rotation. Check deliveries, and notify the Chef or Site Service Manager of any inaccurate deliveries. Keeping all store rooms are clean and tidy.
  • Provide for special dietary requirements where necessary, and take into account the preferences of individual patients.
  • Take all possible precautions to safeguard the welfare and safety of staff young people and visitors.
  • Reports hazards, inadequacies and equipment requiring maintenance to the nurse in charge and reports maintenance problems through the Maintenance Manager`s requisitioning form.
  • Ensure that any incidents or accidents are reported and recorded in accordance with the hospitals guidelines.
  • Ensure that all confidential information about young people, personnel, suppliers etc., is used only in connection with their duties as authorized and ensures that such information is kept secure and out of reach of unauthorized persons.
  • To perform Environmental Risk Assessments of the kitchen, as required for safe standards of work and report and record any hazards and follow up action taken.
  • Manage competing priorities and demands that arise from the unpredictable nature of the environment and patient needs.
  • To undertake accurate records of food supplies, and freezer / fridge temperatures for each span of duty.
  • To undertake accurate records of food temperatures at delivery, storage, cooking and serving for each span of duty.
