The Priory Hospital Middleton St George provides specialist inpatient care for people, of adult working age, with mental health needs who present with complex needs and behaviours that challenge, in a safe and supportive environment. This department aims to provide a high-quality, holistic, strengths-based, and person-centred service within the hospital setting. During May 2015 to June 2016, the department focused on re-introducing Social Work to The Priory Hospital Middleton St George, identifying gaps in services, and building a foundation based in good practice. The department is now able to grow to continue to provide an excellent service to service user and carers. The services provided are based solely within the hospital and if community assessments are required this is referred to the community Social Worker. Additional work is needed on fully integrating Social Work into the Multidisciplinary Team and in helping other professions understand the role.
The role of the Social Worker is to participate as an active member of the Multidisciplinary Team. The Social Worker is allocated to specific wards and participates in ward rounds, risk assessments, care planning, discharge planning, decision-making and team meetings.
