Burton Park provides specialist neurobehavioural rehabilitation for people with an acquired brain injury, including traumatic brain injury and stroke or a progressive neurological condition to reduce challenging behaviour and optimise functional skills.
Burton Park is a 50 bedded inpatient rehabilitation service, across three units and patients are supported to maximise their level of independence. A variety of care pathways can be offered, including intensive or slower stream neurobehavioural rehabilitation which can optimise patients living in the least restrictive setting.
As part of the intensive neurorehabilitation provided on-site at Burton Park, there is a large emphasis placed upon community rehabilitation in order to prepare the patient to move back to their local area as independently as is possible. Burton Park is situated in the historic town of Melton Mowbray, a thriving market town. Here patients can access local amenities such as a leisure centre, cinema, shops, restaurants and cafés to support their full rehabilitation programme.
The TDT includes full time Neuropsychologists, Psychiatrists. Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapist, Speech and Language Therapists, Social Work along with Qualified Nurses and Rehabilitation Assistants. Outcome measures are routinely collected and individual`s progress tracked. Burton Park boasts a range of facilities utilised by the TDT and patients as they work through their specialist individual rehabilitation plan.
The role:
As part of the trans-disciplinary team you will undertake rehabilitation activities both individual and group based, and supporting the nursing delivery to a neuro psychiatry population.
Key duties:
- Consistent application of the neuro-behavioural approach within the units
- Taking a positive approach to the management of challenging behaviour
- Co-ordinating the application of the therapeutic timetable.
- Promoting the independence and individual rights of the patient
- Enabling patients to maintain their personal worth, interests, identity and emotional wellbeing
- Assisting and supporting patients in developing living skills
- Demonstrating engagement with the patient group and contributing to the assessment and evaluation of care plans and goal orientated records under the supervision of a registered nurse
- Ensuring record keeping is complete and in line with the therapeutic treatment approach
- Providing supervision to Rehabilitation Assistants as allocated
- Undertaking the role of key worker with the support of the care co-ordinator
- Developing mentorship skills to support Rehabilitation Assistants in completing the Care Certificate
- Supporting the management of Rehabilitation Assistants on a day to day basis
Role Requirements/Qualifications
To be successful as Senior Rehabilitation Assistant, you`ll need:
- NVQ Level II (desirable)
- Practical knowledge of the brain and brain injury behaviour modification
- Customer care
- Session taking skills
- To recognise the importance of diversity
- To recognise the needs of the individual
- Willingness to actively share skills and knowledge to promote the development of others
- 12 months experience of brain injury or challenging behaviour
- Broader knowledge of the company (desirable)
