Albion House is a 23-bedded residential care home in Lewisham for men and women with mental health issues.

Located near Bromley Road Hospital, Albion House delivers a range of occupational therapy and social inclusion interventions, giving patients continuing involvement in their recovery journey.

The role:

As a Healthcare Support Worker you will be working within a team, which includes a range of professionals. You will make an effective contribution to providing high quality care within a low secure setting.

Key duties:

  • To follow all Health & Safety Regulations and Risk Factors as per regulations.
  • To report to the person in charge upon arrival and receive a full account/hand over concerning each client and their current situation/needs.
  • To receive instruction from the person in charge concerning your duties for the shift.
  • To ensure you are familiar with client`s records,history,notes etc. maintaining appropriate records in keeping with statutory requirements and in sccordance with Albion House policies and procedures.
  • To observe and monitor clients overall physical and mental health reporting any concerns over behaviour, moods, emotions to the person in charge.
  • To escort,if required ,clients on shopping trips, appointments etc.
  • One to One with resident when requsted.
  • To provide and encourage activities with clients either individual or group.
  • To provide individual support , advice and guidance to clients should they require support in times of restlessness or distress.
  • To provide sensitive support and advice to aid client`s access a wide variety of community based facilities including educational, work and social activities.
  • To communicate clearly with clients and staff members, be polite,show respect, empathy and non-judgemental.
  • To report and document clearly any incidents or points of interest in residents file.
  • To provide assistance in preparing /serving breakfast, lunch and Dinner ensuring that clients have enough food and drinks.
  • To provide help in the serving and cleaning up at the main evening meal.
  • To maintain a happy atmosphere wthin the home, integrating and communicating with clients and reporting anything of concern to the manager or person in charge.
  • To be prepared to carry out domestic duties that may be required in an effort to maintain a clean and healthy environment.
  • To be familiar with COSHH regulation and ensure proper usage of chemicals used being aware of poisoning/ allergic reactions.
  • To use/wear protective clothing as required with product use.
  • To encourage clients to participate in the cleaning /tidying of their rooms.
  • To ensure that bedding is changed and the rooms are clean and tidy.
  • To report any incident to the person in charge concerning anything that you feel not o be best in the interest of clients, the home or staff.
  • To report any health and safety hazard to the manager or person in charge immediately and record in maintenance folder.
  • To carry out other duties as may reasonably be required in accordance with the needs of the service.
  • To ensure that all duties are undertaken in accordance with Albion House`s Equal Opportunities policy.

Qualification:

  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work flexibility.
  • Basic liiteracy skills.
  • Common sence apporoach to problem solving.
  • Basic numeracy skills.
  • Motivation and initiative.
  • Some appreciation of Mental Health problems.
  • Eduaction to GCSE Standard.
  • NVQ or equivalent would be an advantage.
