Llanarth Court is a specialist hospital providing medium and low secure care for men and women with mental illness and/or personality disorder and for men with intellectual/learning disability. The role:
As an Occupational Therapist at Llanarth Court you will have autonomy and responsibility over a specific caseload of service users with complex difficulties. You will be responsible for delivering the occupational therapy process from assessments to critical evaluation and contribute towards the service users activity records, through attending ICR`s, CPA /CTP meetings. You will ensure contemporaneous, written and electronic record and activity data are maintained in accordance with professional and service standards.
You will be working closely with other members of the clinical team, demonstrating a commitment to effective team work and ensure effective communication is maintained with all service users, care and any staff involved in the service users` care.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Essential: Diploma or degree in Occupational Therapy
- Essential: State Registration
- Desirable: Member of the British Association of Occupational Therapy
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE:
- Post qualification in clinical mental health setting and/or demonstrable experience highly related to the clinical field
- Experience of CPD and role development activities
KEY DUTIES:
- To implement a Recovery based approach.
- To provide a comprehensive initial OT assessment and treatment plans for case load according to the agreed model and in accordance with CPA guidelines and service user care plans.
- To assist in the planning and running of suitable individual and/or group treatment programmes to individual service user needs and agreed interventions plans.
- To plan and regularly review appropriate treatment programmes under the supervision of a senior OT.
- To maintain evaluation records of performance for individual service users, provide verbal and/or written data for Individual Care Reviews, External CPA / CTP meetings and Treatment Formulation Meetings, and actively participate in clinical discussion around service user needs and the development of service user care plans.
- To liaise closely with other members of the clinical team demonstrating a commitment to effective team work.
- To identify and action emerging service user needs and referring onto relevant MDT members and/ or external agencies.
- To contribute to pre admission assessment and care plans as part of an MDT.
- To assist in ensuring that an effective and efficient system of Occupational Therapy service delivery is maintained.
- Ensure a written protocol and risk assessment is in place for each therapeutic intervention and to periodically review and update these.
- To ensure effective communication is maintained with all service users, carers/family, staff, stakeholders present and future.
- Engage and communicate effectively with service users using a range of communication strategies, taking into account barriers to communication for example cognitive impairment, physical and sensory impairments.
