Two 24 bedded male wards for mental health focus

The role:

We are currently looking for enthusiastic clinical or forensic psychologists (experienced or newly qualified) to join our dynamic department. The successful candidate will contribute to all aspects of psychological services.

This role will include working with complex patients who present with a range of mental health needs, including mental illness, personality disorders and cognitive deficits. You will be involved in both assessment and treatment, including the use of structured risk assessment measures and one-to-one and group-based interventions relating to a range of needs such as sexual and violent offending, fire-setting, problem solving, substance misuse and anger management. Approaches used within individual therapy will largely employ a CBT approach, though opportunities also exist in relation to other models depending upon interest and experience, including Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Cognitive Analytical Therapy and EMDR.

As part of a multi-disciplinary team you will assist with the development, delivery and evaluation of the evidence-based interventions, in order to comply with best practice principles. Your role will also incorporate staff training, research and supervision of other members of the Psychology Department.

You will have the ability to apply psychological knowledge to a secure psychiatric setting, adopting a systematic approach and responding flexibly to both the treatment requirements of mentally disordered individuals and the complexities associated with organisational settings.

You will have full registration as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).  Some post-registration experience is desirable, though not essential. Experience of working with patients detained under the Mental Health Act (1983) is advantageous.
