Mildmay Oaks is a low secure and locked rehabilitation service for men with learning disability and autism spectrum disorder, and for women with learning disability.
Our Kitchen Assistant (Cook) role involves:
- Cleaning all kitchen utensils and equipment, plates and cutlery from the wards. Operate regular kitchen cleaning on a day-to-day schedule basis.
- Be able to prepare fresh food for the times of service.
- Due to the business needs your contact may change as well as shift patterns.
Key duties and responsibilities
- Responsible for correct washing/cleaning and storage procedures for kitchen utensils, restaurant plates, and cutlery.
- Be able to prepare food for the main meals at lunch and tea time.
- Be able to prepare desserts.
- Responsible for dishwashing machine in regard to cleaning and correct operation.
- Maintain a professional approach at all times, conducting yourself in a smart, clean, hygienic and orderly manner.
- Maintain flexible working hours at all times.
- To maintain health and safety at work practices at all times.
- To assist in basic food preparation, e.g. salads, sandwiches, vegetables.
- An understanding of how to read recipes.
- Understand how to follow specification files and understanding measurements.
- Be able to accept deliveries and check off any invoices that all stock is there and correct.
- Put deliveries away using stock rotation.
To be successful as Kitchen Assistant (Cook), you’ll need:
- Possession of a Basic Food Hygiene Certificate although this can be obtained when in post.
- A good knowledge of kitchen procedures and food and hygiene standards.
