St. John`s House provides quality, specialised treatment and care of adults with learning disabilities where their needs challenge mainstream service provision.

We offer a secure environment which is linked with community based step-down services including continuing care and rehabilitation. Many of our patients have a history of offending behaviour and have learning disability and other conditions including autistic spectrum disorders, personality disorders and mental illnesses.

Based in the village of Palgrave in Norfolk, the strength of St John`s House lies in the quality of the comprehensive assessment, treatment and care it provides. The emphasis is on a holistic and individualised approach delivered by a multidisciplinary team who are skilled, experienced professionals trained in their specific field. Our multi disciplinary team includes psychiatry, psychology, nursing (mental health and learning disability), occupational therapy, specialist teaching, social work and a practice nurse for physical healthcare. We also call in services from GPs, speech and language therapists, dentists, opticians, dieticians and chiropodists.

We have exciting career opportunities to work as an integral member of a multi-disciplinary team supporting adult patients who have Learning Disabilities combined with enduring mental illness. Working within our hospitals across south Norfolk and north Suffolk, you will make an effective contribution to providing high quality care within a medium secure forensic setting.

Our Healthcare Worker role involves:

  • Developing therapeutic relationships to optimise patient engagement and progression
  • Contributing to ongoing patient assessments, completion of care plans alongside the monitoring of individual`s progress
  • Being involved with the Therapies Team in the delivery of their therapeutic sessions both on and off the unit
  • Supporting and working as an effective member of the team together with the mentoring of colleagues
  • Assisting with the management of challenging situations and behaviours via the use of verbal de-escalation and physical intervention skills
  • Completion of daily patient clinical notes, both electronically and handwritten ensuring the accurate recording of information
  • Completion of all mandatory and specialised role-based training including The Care Certificate (Skillsforcare.org.uk)
  • Following all Company Policies and Procedures ensuring that the high quality of care we pride ourselves on, is delivered to our patients.

To be a successful Healthcare Worker, you will need:

  • A flexible, positive, team-orientated approach
  • A commitment to patient-centred care with a mature, compassionate attitude
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • The drive to learn and develop within a thriving working environment
  • Relevant experience working with a similar patient group is desirable but not essential as full training will be provided

Qualifications:

Education to GCSE standard, or equivalent
