Llanarth Court is a sector-leading example of how by providing a wide variety of care settings a clear care pathway in the direction of recovery can be achieved for all patients.

We provide:

  • Medium secure, low secure, locked and open, recovery focused rehabilitation, and community housing to support patients` safe and positive reintegration into the community
  • Acute, PICU and high dependency services (HDU) for patients in an acute psychiatric crisis, who are at risk to themselves and others, and require an emergency admission
  • Specialist residential care and education, specifically designed for young people, with histories of self-injurious behaviours, attachment difficulties and complex presentations
  • Individualised inpatient and residential care and education for children, young people and adults, requiring treatment of acute or severe and enduring eating disorders
  • Personalised inpatient and outpatient treatment for addiction and psychological trauma

We are looking for an enthusiastic Consultant Psychiatrist to work either at the womens service at Llanarth court hospital or the male low secure service at Ty Catrin in Cardiff. The womens service is comprises of a 16 bedded medium service, Awen and a four bedded open rehab service, Woodlands and is based at Llanarth court hospital in Abergavenny.

Our Consultant Psychiatrist role involves:

  • Providing clinical leadership to a successful multi-disciplinary team
  • Managing specialist mental health, behavioural and psychological needs of patients suffering mental disorder
  • Attending team meetings
  • Assessing and treating new referrals
  • Being involved with CPA, review meetings and Mental Health Review Tribunals
  • Being available for crisis and on-call work
  • Responding to the need for psychiatric input
  • Dealing with some physical problems within your sphere of expertise that are drawn to your attention
  • Taking part in clinical and interdisciplinary activities within the service
  • Keeping up to date with current practices (journals, meetings and conferences)
  • Being familiar with and complying with the policies and procedures laid down in the policy manual
  • Interfacing with other PIC Services to share best practice, clinical audit and research
  • Interfacing externally to develop and manage person-centred pathways with other commissioning and provider services
  • Being part of an out of hours on call rota
  • Participate in appraisal and revalidation in line with PiC policy

To be successful as Consultant Psychiatrist, you`ll need:

  • Commitment to patient-centred care and to values-based and evidence-based practice
  • A flexible, positive, team-orientated approach
  • GMC and Defence Society Membership
  • Substantive consultants need to be on the GMC Specialist register for adult psychiatry, rehabilitation psychiatry or forensic psychiatry
  • Have to be an approved clinician and section 12 approved doctor
