The world’s largest manufacturer of high-technology cables and systems for energy and telecommunications is now looking for a Quality Technician to join its manufacturing team. Reporting to the Senior Quality Engineer, the Quality Technician will be responsible for providing comprehensive quality support within the factory. Support to other Company manufacturing facilities will also be required from time to time.
This role would suit ex-military candidates and applications from ex-service personnel are strongly encouraged.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the operation and maintenance of the on-site material and product testing facility.
- Perform material and product tests in accordance with internal and external procedures and specifications.
- Provide advice, guidance and training on material and cable tests.
- Analyse test results and prepare test reports from routine, sample and type testing, with recommendations, as required (Microsoft Office applications are used).
- Ensure continuing site compliance to ISO9001:2008 and participate in internal and external audits.
- Implement new testing programmes and equipment when necessary.
- Assist in maintaining document control, including site quality plans and test schedules.
- Maintain quality plans and test schedules for manufacturing in-process checks, cable materials and finished products.
- Provide Quality support to manufacturing to assist in continuous improvement.
- Provide corrective actions for in-process defects.
- Support the Senior Quality Engineer by collating and reporting production quality performance measures such as right first time and defect analysis.
- Ensure test equipment is maintained in a safe and calibrated condition, and assist with arrangements to carry out calibration of equipment within the test facility and related areas.
- Carry out internal machine process audits in line with the requirements of ISO 9001 and with Prysmian International Standards.
- Participate in safety audits in specified factory areas.
- Support the customer claims, supplier complaint and Cost of Poor Quality processes.
Key Qualifications and Experience
- Educated to at least HND or equivalent level in an Engineering, Science or Quality based discipline.
- Ideally have proven manufacturing quality-related experience and a working knowledge of ISO9001:2008.
- Knowledge of cable manufacture would be an advantage, but not essential.
- The successful candidate will be highly self-motivated with an enthusiastic, analytical and hands-on approach.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal are essential as is the ability to work independently and as a key member of a small team.
