HQ4703: Maintenance Engineer
Location: Rainham, Essex
Salary: £25,000 - £30,000
An opportunity has become available for a competent Maintenance Engineer in the Rainham area. The role includes the control and monitoring of devices and occasionally the manufacturing of items that will help in maintenance. The purpose of this role is to ensure the continuous running of equipment and machinery.
Applications from ex-military personnel i.e. Navy, Royal Air Force (RAF) or Army are strongly encouraged.
The position is ideally suited for someone with a mechanical bias with electrical experience and qualifications. You will use PLCs and electrical test equipment to assist in fault finding on all machinery and equipment.
Main Duties:
- Support the Planned Preventative Maintenance System and respond to equipment faults
- Support the Total Productive Manufacturing initiative on site (TPM)
- Accountable for all electrical appliances on site
- Designing / amending maintenance strategies, procedures and methods
- Designing maintenance strategies, procedures and methods for new installations
- Accountable for the installation of new parts ensuring equipment is working correctly
- Diagnosing faults, breakdown problem, troubleshooting all machinery and equipment
- Carrying out quality inspections on jobs
- Liaising with other engineering and production colleagues
- Arranging specialist procurement of fixtures, fittings or components
- Controlling maintenance tools, stores, equipment and costs
- Dealing with and responding to emergencies, unplanned problems and repairs
- Working within Health & Safety policies and procedures and making improvements
- Working with specialist equipment, such as programmable machines
- Ensuring there is continuous cover of the machinery in case of breakdowns
- Utilisation of the appropriate tools required to complete each task such as a lathe, milling machine, surface grinder and power tools etc
- Commission modifications and alterations to existing plant and equipment, to improve line efficiencies
Knowledge, skills and qualifications required:
Essential:
- Time Served Engineer - NVQ level 3 in Engineering etc.
- Mechanically biased engineerwith electrical experience and qualifications
- Experience in mechanical drives and mechanical set up of complex drive systems
- Experience of machine shop facilities - lathe, miller, pillar drills etc.
- Ability to interpret drawings, blue-prints, manuals, sketches or verbal instructions
- Experience of working in manufacturing industry would be an advantage
- Work flexibly to support colleagues within both engineering and other departments.
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Possess detailed analytical and problem solving skills
- Proactive approach, displaying a can do / will do attitude.
- Self-motivated and able to work well in a team environment
Maintenance Qualifications:
- BTEC in Operations & Maintenance Engineering
- C&G Certificate in Engineering
- NVQ Level 3 in Engineering
Electrical Qualifications:
- C&G 2357-13 NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Installing Electro-technical Systems and Equipment (Buildings and Structures) or;
- C&G 2357-23 NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Electro-technical Services (Electrical Maintenance)
- 17th Edition of the Wiring Regulations BS 7671:2008 (Requirements of Electrical Installations - City & Guilds 2382-15 Level 3)
- C&G 2394 Level 3 Award in the Initial Verification and Certification of Electrical Installations, and;
- C&G 2395 Level 3 Award in the Periodic Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations, this will entitle you to complete Electrical Installation Condition Reports

A degree in:
