Description :

A major UK retail solutions provider based in Dunfermline has a requirement for a HGV Mechanic to maintain the company’s commercial vehicles and cars in line with Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency maintenance policies. The ability to work accurately and safely to a high quality of workmanship is essential as company vehicles are inspected regularly by external organisations. You will be expected to work with minimum supervision and to service and maintain all vehicles to MOT standards, carrying out roadside repairs if necessary. The company’s business covers the whole of Scotland and, whilst travelling to company sites will attract overtime pay, no overnight stays will be required. This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to build on previous experience and expand on their current skills set.

Key Responsibilities:

The key responsibility is to ensure the efficient maintenance of the vehicle fleet, comprising of refrigerated DAF and Mercedes trucks, to the required legislative standards. Also, to ensure that those vehicles are inspected and serviced in line with company policy in order to minimise vehicle

off-road time for all vehicles.

Under the guidance of the Transport Supervisor, the HGV Mechanic will:

  • Carry out workshop procedures, making cost effective use of materials and time
  • Ensure correct storage and disposal of materials, oil and effluent, so company environmental standards are consistently achieved
  • Carry out such other duties that might be reasonably requested
  • Adhere to Health & Safety at Work Policy Rules

In agreement with the Transport Supervisor, the HGV Mechanic will achieve KPIs, typically including:

  • Vehicles maintained to schedule on time
  • Repair costs within budgeted levels
  • Repair times within targeted levels
  • Targets for vehicles’ off-road time

Person Specification:

The successful applicant must have a good mechanical background with an associated commercial qualification and experience.

Essential:

Minimum HGV Class 2 licence

Tachograph and Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) Cards

Understanding of transport legislation

Desirable:

  • City & Guilds Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Competence (4270-23)
  • BTEC Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Competence Principles (Qualifications & Credit Framework (QCF))
  • Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance & Electronic Systems: Maintenance & Repairs
