The Company and the Role:
The Company is an International Peacekeeping Force which operates in the Sinai. As part of its role it maintains two military camps one in the North close to the Mediterranean coast and one in the South at Sharm El Sheikh.
They are currently seeking a High Voltage Electrician to be based at the South Camp located at Sharm El Sheikh in the Sinai. There will be frequent spells of work in the North Camp as required. The position is offered on a 2 year contract, renewable.
Key Features of the Role:
Under the direction of the Power Plant Supervisor you will maintain the distribution system, switchgear and transformers at either North or South Camp, as delegated.
This includes the installation, monthly inspection, test and repair of electrical substations, generator sets and/or overhead and underground primary electrical distribution systems.
You will provide the knowledge and application of electrical and electronic principles, procedures, materials and safety standards governing work on electrical systems above 480 volts.
You will ensure that the generators are maintained in accordance with the Electrical Power Supervisor / Generator Mechanic’s instructions.
Knowledge and Skills:
You should be an accomplished Electrician with experience of both low voltage and high voltage electrical power distribution and of oil testing and transformer housekeeping.
Ideally you will have specific experience and knowledge of power generation in an overseas remote location.
Some supervisory team leader experience is highly desirable
Your practical experience should include having served a full engineering apprenticeship in electrical engineering supported by a technical qualification in electrical practice (UK Higher National Certificate or equivalent).
You should be British 17th Edition, City & Guild, 2382-12, Certificated or equivalent.
You should have had training in high voltage switchgear and oil filled transformers from 3800v to 22000v and you should have excellent knowledge of European, American and British standards and practice.
You should be a confident communicator with the ability to supervise, motivate, coach and train a team of Egyptian nationals.
Experience of working in a military environment or for an international facilities management services provider and other similar organisations would be ideal, as would experience of working in remote sites or in other arduous environments.
Superb inter-personal skills and instant credibility are essential as you will be inter-facing with a number of people from different backgrounds, nationalities and religions.
Finally, you should be pc literate and possess a Drivers Licence.
What’s on Offer?
Salary will be around £41,000 pa. The salary is tax free for an Ex-Patriate employee
The basic salary is paid in US Dollars and is tax free for an Ex-Patriate employee.
Included in the basic salary is a 20% location allowance payable and also a 7% allowance in lieu of a pension scheme, both of which are tax free for an Ex-Patriate employee.
A 2 year unaccompanied status contract is offered which includes free accommodation, laundry, local transport, life assurance, health insurance and meals. In addition, employees have the use of a phone to call family and friends and the internet for e-mails etc.
The holiday entitlement is 28.5 days plus 12 public holidays.
Our client does not provide a specified number of free flights but awards a cash sum each year in US Dollars which the employee can spend as they wish to facilitate their R and R leave. Mobilisation and De-Mobilisation flights are paid for by our client.
