The Company and the Role:
The Company has an exciting opportunity for a Head of Estates and Facilities to join their Children`s Hospice Team. Operating from a large locally listed, former family house, set in four acres of protected woodland in Essex. This is a permanent position.
As Head of Estates and Facilities you are responsible for the Health and Safety compliance, in line with current legislation requirements.
Making sure the environment is safe for children, families, staff, volunteers and all other visitors.
Overseeing all routine, planned and emergency maintenance of the building. Including its grounds, equipment and vehicles.
As well as project manage all new building / refurbishment projects.
Key Features of the Role:
As Head of Estates and Facilities you will be tasked with staying abreast of statutory legislation (e.g. HSE / CQC / COSHH) etc. Identifying potential hazards and risk assessments. Reviewing fire, alarm and evacuation policies and procedures. Carrying out water audits, gas supply safety, heating, electricity and oxygen checks and disseminate estate and facilities CAS Alerts.
Manage members of the facilities team, (paid and voluntary) as well as recruitment, induction, supervision, appraisals and performance management.
You will project manage all new building / re-decoration projects, (funded or pro bono contractor work), responsible through the life cycle of the project, from start to finish.
Maintenance responsibilities will be to oversee a Planner Preventative Maintenance (PPM) programme. Costings, contracts, enforcing standards, record keeping, PAT etc.
Responsibility for procurement, maintaining effective use of resources within budgetary constraints, with approved partners, working in conjunction with the Financial Dept.
You will participate fully in the out of routine hours \"On Call\" rota, providing 24 hour maintenance support.
Knowledge and Skills:
As Head of Estates and Facilities you must have a current and similar level of experience of estate and/or facilities management.
You must have knowledge of compliance with health and safety legislation.
You must have experience of water management.
You must have experience of building maintenance.
You must have experience of project management of new builds/refurbishments including knowledge of CDM regulations and compliance.
You must have experience of managing and/or undertaking minor plumbing work, domestic appliance maintenance, building repairs and decorating.
You must have experience of line management of paid staff.
You must have experience of managing / working with external contractors.
You must have IOSH qualification.
You must have a comprehensive DIY mentality and problem solving abilities.
You must have evidence of sound communication skills both verbal and written.
You must have proven and successful experience of working within a team and independently.
You must have basic IT skills, a clean driving licence and be able to pass necessary background checks.
You must be willing to be flexible in working patterns and to undertake on call as required.
NEBOSH qualification is also very desirable, as is security systems and management of security contractors and experience of working with volunteers.
What`s on Offer:
The Head of Estate and Faculties will be offered a basic salary ranging from £33,963 to £37,736 depending on experience.
Hours of work will be from 28 - 35 per week (plus on call as part of a rota).
On call allowance worth 4.5% of basic salary.
Annual leave allowance of 25 days (pro-rata for part time working), plus bank holidays.
On completion of satisfactory probation period a 2 month notice takes effect.
Pension scheme, childcare vouchers, eye care vouchers and cycle to work scheme.
