Description :

A specialist college within Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) is seeking an individual with an understanding and experience of track renewals and ‘permanent way’ maintenance. The instructor will provide instruction and assessment to students and apprentices while working with employers to effectively plan assessments, coaching and training activities both in the workplace and simulated environments. The ideal candidate will embody core values of Professionalism, Equality, Integrity and Accountability in their everyday work. Teacher training will be provided to the successful applicant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare and deliver lessons which meet the Ofsted criteria for ‘Good’ or better including the development of relevant resources
  • Ensure accurate assessment and progressive feedback of learners’ work against criteria
  • Develop courses that meet the needs of all stakeholders with effective mapping of student and apprentice pathways
  • Create, maintain and analyse accurate data in relation to learners.
  • Produce effective, accurate and current records to ensure that all parties are clear where each learner is at any given time and how to progress further
  • Ensure learners are engaged and motivated to learn through active teaching and learning strategies that are learner-centric at all times
  • Respond to and support student’s additional needs with referral on to appropriate parties
  • Embed and promote British Values and support and respond sensitively and empathically to student disclosures, observing confidentiality where appropriate and referring appropriately in the case of safeguarding.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Have a minimum of NVQ level 3 qualifications and relevant experience within rail.
  • Have minimum level 2 or equivalent qualifications in English and Maths
  • Knowledge of the Apprenticeship qualifications and frameworks
  • Previous experience working with young people and adults
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to show initiative in developing and maintaining systems
  • Ability to deal with people sensitively and confidentiality within policies and procedures

Desirable:

  • Experience of teaching, learning and assessment
  • Attained a professional teaching qualification

Salary:

£35,000 (DOE) + LW, benefits

Hours of Work:         

37.5 hrs / week Mon – Fri 8am – 4:35pm, possible night shift rotation for onsite assessments
