A UK Head of Operations is being sought by a provision and stores management organisation, serving the global shipping community. The UK Head of Operations leads a team of fifteen Account Managers creating provision and stores orders for over 1,000 ships around the world at the best value and highest level of satisfaction. The UK Operations team analyses shipping trade patterns and selects the most appropriate ports to supply the ships. The team then purchases provisions and technical stores on behalf of the ship owners and management companies. As UK Head of Operations you will be in daily contact with ships and suppliers from all over the globe delivering an exceptional service. The role often requires work outside of normal office hours and may also involve international travel.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a team of UK Vessel Account Managers using KPIs
- Create and deliver UK Vessel Account Managers training in line with the company’s Performance Excellence Strategy
- Ongoing people development of the UK Vessel Account Managers
- Monitor vessel consumption versus budget rates & take corrective action for any issues
- Work with the global teams to minimise stock losses
- Identify issues relating to the vessel purchasing cycle and implement solutions
- Troubleshoot issues and find solutions that meet business and customer needs
- Devise, document and implement aligned processes and activities across operational teams
- Work collaboratively with the Head of Operations - Denmark
- Attend internal senior management meetings and external client and supplier review meetings
- Support the C.O.O. in developing processes and strategic initiatives to enhance overall planning performance and reporting
- Creative input to the overall business and operations strategies
- Work with the Head of Procurement on daily supply issues
Person Specification:
To succeed in this role you must have strong negotiation skills and display a profit oriented approach. You will be a strategic thinker who is also able to operate at a tactical level. You will be a genuine team player who can communicate effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing. The ability to prioritise, whilst still focusing on the detail, even when working under pressure, is essential. You must be able to work independently and understand the importance of meeting deadlines whilst delighting customers at minimum cost.
Knowledge, skills and qualifications:
- Knowledge/experience of either the maritime industry, food industry or the purchasing of technical goods would be an advantage
- Extensive line-management experience including the delivery of structured staff appraisals
- Experience of operating in a multi-cultural and international environment
- Demonstrable and strong leadership skills
- Experienced user of MS Office suite including intermediate to advanced user of Excel
- A university degree in a relevant subject would be an advantage but is not essential
- High level of proficiency in both written and oral English
