As a leading manufacturer of centrifugal pumps and associated systems, supply and servicing of pumps, pump packages and equipment for over 100 years, our client is now looking to expand their team and recruit a Pump Machinist to be based in their workshop in Hyde.
The Pump Machinist will be responsible for around 90% manual machining and offer assistance when necessary for pump and valve removal/installation in the Service Centre and on site. It is anticipated that the Pump Machinist will have the flexibility to work overtime during the weeks and weekends (overtime paid accordingly).
Applications from ex-military personnel (Royal Air Force, Royal Navy, British Army, and Royal Marines) will be particularly relevant for this role and are strongly encouraged.
Key Responsibilities:
- Stripping and cleaning customer equipment and assisting with removal and re-installation of customer equipment when required
- Bias on turning majority of machining on manual center lathe, producing shafts, sleeves, spacers, etc.
- Machining cast parts to drawing such as impellers, bearing housings, casings
- General milling including keyways and slots
- Vertical borer machining valve bodies, pump bowls, pump casings etc.
- Remove and replace case wear rings and bushes
- Carry out all work practices in line with Company Health and Safety Policy
- Ensure compliance with corporate policies and procedures
- Meet high standard of cleanliness and housekeeping
- Support site activities
- Present a professional image, support and promote brand values at all times
- Liaise with workshop personnel at all levels
Knowledge, skills and qualifications required:
Essential:
- Time served Craft Apprenticeship / trained machine shop engineer, who can operate successfully in a production environment using conventional lathes, drills, mills, etc.
- Relevant qualification to NVQ Level 3 (A-level to HNC or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or relevant experience
- Service knowledge and understanding of rotating equipment
- Experience in the overhaul of pumps / valves

Salary: £24,284 (37.5 hours per week, Monday to Thursday 7.30am-4pm and Friday 7.30am-1pm)
