Our client is part of the Logistics Division of a major Middle East Group and a provider of transport and logistics solutions and services within the Arabian Gulf and throughout The Middle East.
In addition to general cargo haulage services they operate storage and consolidation services and they specialize in moving land based drilling rigs across sites and international boundaries. They routinely provide both contractual and ad-hoc support to the majority of upstream operators in Oman and well as most of the oilfield services companies.
They have just won a major contract with a major oil and gas exploration company and are seeking a Transport Manager for their Fleet Logistics Control Centre based in Khazzan, Oman. This is a contract role on a 2 year renewable contract.
This is an excellent opportunity for a less experienced Transport Manager or an experienced Transport Supervisor looking to step up to TM status and to widen their experience and to gain international and Middle East experience.
Reporting into the Senior Operations Manager – FLCC, this is a remote site based role and you will assist the SOM –FLCC in the day to day management of the transport operations of this newly acquired contract.
The role will be varied including assisting in the managing of sites and staff and office based work e.g reports, projects etc
In addition you will have sufficient intellect to produce and critique management reports and brief senior management on projects and improvements.
You will be expected to assist the SOM – FLCC to deliver improvements in terms of driver attendance, vehicle utilisation, fuel consumption and cost per vehicle etc. as well as making sure all operational procedures are followed.
The role is primarily based at Khazzan and will involve travelling throughout the Oman interior. When not at work you will need to be based in the capital, Muscat.
Knowledge and Skills:
To meet this exceptional challenge, you will be an ambitious transport operations professional.
Experience in 3rd party logistics is beneficial but our client is open minded as to your background
Experience of the oil and gas sector is not necessary.
Our client is very supportive towards the ex-military community and the company employs a number of ex - military UK personnel.
With outstanding leadership ability and a strong customer focus, you will have the confidence to win credibility and make an effective contribution.
Your work experience should ideally be supported by a qualification in a logistics, transport or operational doctrine.
You should have a strong health and safety background.
You should possess excellent communication skills in English and ideally one other language and be able to adapt to rapid changes in a positive manner, work to tight deadlines and pay attention to the detail.
Superb communication skills and instant credibility are essential as you will be inter-facing with a number of people from different backgrounds, nationalities and religions.
You will be resourceful with a flexible outlook, have the ability to multi-task in order to handle competing priorities and be able to fit in to an international dynamic and multi-cultural environment.
Finally you should possess a Drivers Licence and be PC / IT literate. An international driving licence would be very useful.
