Our client is a leading distributor of fresh produce and an independent, family owned company of approximately 200 employees operating from two distribution centres in Kent. Across the two depots they operate temperature-controlled warehousing for approximately 4,000 pallets and a fleet of temperature controlled vehicles, for the benefit of customers across the fresh produce sector. They handle around 300,000 pallets of fresh produce a year on behalf of their customers and pride themselves on the care they take of both the produce itself and their customers. Whether they are storing imported iceburg lettuces, moving bananas to retailers, picking up tomatoes and apples in bulk from Kent farmers or distributing cherries from Europe, they do so with the greatest care and consideration for the valuable produce.
They operate daily / nightly distribution services to wholesale markets, retailers, foodservice outlets, re-packers and processors.
As a result of expansion they are now seeking additional HGV 1 ( C + E ) Night Drivers to operate from either of their two distribution centres. The roles are permanent.
Overall you will deliver goods in a timely, safe and efficient manner providing excellent customer service to customers.
Specifically you will make deliveries of fresh produce to multi drop locations across the UK.
You will make all deliveries according to customer requirements and timescales using the correct offloading equipment.
You will assist with the loading/unloading of the vehicle.
You will ensure that all loads are safe and checked against paperwork before departure.
You will ensure and complete deliveries in a safe and proper manner.
You will present a positive image of our client to the customer, at all times.
You will ensure that all relevant delivery paperwork is completed properly.
You will carry out vehicle checks and routine maintenance, reporting any defects.
Finally you will complete all paperwork to comply with current legislation for tachograph and the working time directive.
Knowledge and Skills:
You will be an accomplished HGV 1 ( C + E ) Driver.
This role will particularly appeal to military leavers and those Drivers with an ex-military background. This company is proactively seeking individuals from an ex-military background and is offering long term development within this expanding and developing company.
You should be a keen team player with a focus on providing excellent customer service, have excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
You should be familiar with health and safety procedures as they relate to the work of a Driver.
You should be familiar with safe loading and unloading procedures.
You should be familiar with defensive driving techniques.
You should be very familiar with tachograph requirements and the Working Time Directive.
A flexible approach to working hours is essential as you may be required to work extra hours.
The contracted week for Night Drivers is 50 hours per week although the average working week is 65 hours. Overtime is payable at £11 per hour and there is also a night load bonus of £25 per night There is also an additional bonus for working a sixth shift bonus of £50, a night out allowance of £14.50 a weekly meal allowance of £10 per week and all parking charges are paid by the Company. All together this means your annual earnings will be around £36,000 – 37,000 per annum.
Start times are variable and can be anytime between 16.30 and 23.00, Sunday to Thursday.
In addition there is a pension scheme and 20 days holiday plus bank and public holidays.
