This is a part time role at 22.5 hours per week therefore the salary is pro rata.
Job Purpose:
- To provide ward based recreational and diversional activities for an identified patient group
- To work as an active member of the Occupational Therapy service
- To provide an activity organiser service to identified ward / wards across a seven-day working pattern (including evenings and weekends) in a shift rotation with other staff.
Main Duties:
- To provide individual or group activities for ward-based patients
- To provide feedback of interventions to ward-based nursing staff and the ward Occupational Therapist
- To work with patients in safe and supportive environments, providing activities that meet their needs
- To work under the supervision of the ward based Occupational Therapist meeting the department`s standards for individual supervision
- To consult with occupational therapy staff regarding the needs of individual patients
- To be an active member of the occupational therapy team
- To have an awareness of working within a secure environment
- To become aware of and ensure that patients` clinical programmes are not compromised
- To communicate courteously and tactfully to patients, staff and visitors at all times
- To record attendance and submit statistical data to the Senior Technical Instructor or Allied Health Professions Lead
- To respect confidentiality of both patients and colleagues
- To work alongside the Real Work Opportunities initiative
- To be part of the Recovery college initiative, encouraging patients to participate
- To ensure Hospital policies/procedures are complied with at all times
- To act in a manner at all times that promotes professionalism and demonstrates a positive role model to patients.
To be successful as Healthcare Worker (Activity) , you`ll need:

- Ability to empathise with patients
- Creativity and the ability to adapt activities to the needs of the patients
- Spontaneous and quick thinking in relation to the provision and choice of activities

- To comply with individual knowledge under the Health & Safety Act
- Aware of the potential risk patients pose when accessing equipment
- To have the physical fitness required to undertake MVA training
Qualifications
No qualifications necessary but some previous experience within a similar setting is desirable.
