Lakeside View is a specialist Personality Disorder transitional unit for females aged 18-25 years.

It has a locked environment which provides a therapeutic setting designed to provide a DBT based, recovery focused programme for those with complex needs. 

The role:

As an Assistant Psychologist you will be working within a multi-disciplinary team that includes a range of professionals. You will be central to providing high quality care.

Our Assistant Psychologist role involves:

To support the Psychology service in the delivery of a psychology service of excellence to individuals with mental health, challenging behaviour, and social and communication difficulties (ASC) at Lakeside View Hospital by:

  • Contributing to the quality and effectiveness of the psychological assessment (e.g. Risk Assessments - HCR-20) of individuals and providing written reports under the supervision of a Forensic Psychologist.
  • Delivering psychological interventions, based on the formulation of needs, on an individual and group basis.
  • Contributing to the practical development of audit and service evaluation initiatives in order to improve and evaluate therapeutic outcomes.
  • Contributing to the multi-disciplinary team in its efforts to help individuals achieve their best levels of independence and quality of life.
  • Supporting the qualified psychologist as required.
  • Collecting data and behaviour monitoring to assist with effective treatment planning.

To be successful as an Assistant Psychologist, you`ll need:

  • Degree in Psychology (2:1 and above) with Graduate Basis for Chartered membership with the British Psychological Society (GBC).

Skills/Knowledge

  • Some knowledge/experience conducting psychological assessments (e.g. HCR-20 Risk Assessments).
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with colleagues, individuals with mental health needs, carer groups and external professionals.
  • Proven ability to work to deadlines, prioritising workload appropriately and good communication skills across a range of media and in different forums (verbal, written, ICT, in meetings, formal settings, such as Care Programme Approach reviews).
  • Ability to work with individuals who may present with behaviours that challenge professionals.
  • An understanding of the use of outcome measures and experience with data collection and analysis to assist with goal-setting and evaluating interventions.

Desirable

  • Prior experience and application of different psychological assessments and interventions used in mental health services (e.g. HCR-20 risk assessment). This can include experience gained from voluntary/placement year experience.
