Ty Catrin is a low secure mental illness and personality disorder service for men and women who require a medium-term placement and recovery-orientated specialist treatment in order to progress on their care pathway towards rehabilitation care.

The facility is split into six wards along with semi-independent flats onsite.

Our Chef role involves:

  • Managing the kitchen/catering department within the Hospital in the Head Chef’s absence
  • Assisting in providing a varied choice of menu to service users and staff
  • Assisting in providing diets as required by service users via requests from the clinical team
  • Being responsible for monitoring of staff’s progress and efficiency in the Head Chef’s absence
  • Preparing and delivering meals within the budget and preventing wastage
  • Ensuring the correct and economic use of materials and equipment
  • Assisting in the ordering of weekly supplies and monitoring their quality together with the efficiency of suppliers in the absence of the Head Chef
  • Reporting to the Head Chef any deterioration in food consumables supplied
  • Being responsible for the collection of food samples as required by the Environmental Health Department
  • Ensuring safety of self and training staff in the safe-keeping, usage and cleaning of kitchen equipment and sharp objects
  • Ensuring that all food preparation is of a high standard
  • Ensuring that all aspects of Health & Safety are adhered to e.g. COSHH, HASNA
  • Regularly checking and documenting temperature, equipment and cleanliness, quantity and appearance of meals
  • Regularly liaising with wards
  • Reporting mechanical defects and repairs
  • Monitoring and checking all deliveries
  • Reporting any accidents in accordance with Company policies

To be successful as a Chef, you’ll need:

  • To be educated to a good standard
  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent
  • Level 2 Award in Food Safety for Catering

Skills/Knowledge

  • A good working knowledge of special diet food requirements within hospitals
  • Previous experience working in a catering environment
  • Knowledge and experience of stock ordering
  • Ability to communicate at all levels
  • Good organisational skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Basic knowledge of health and safety and COSHH
