Burton Park provides specialist neurobehavioural rehabilitation for people with an acquired brain injury, including traumatic brain injury and stroke or a progressive neurological condition to reduce challenging behaviour and optimise functional skills.  Burton Park is a 50 bedded inpatient rehabilitation service, across three units and patients are supported to maximise their level of independence.  A variety of care pathways can be offered, including intensive or slower stream neurobehavioural rehabilitation which can optimize patients living in the least restrictive setting.  As part of the intensive neurorehabilitation provided on-site at Burton Park, there is a large emphasis placed upon community rehabilitation in order to prepare the patient to move back to their local area as independently as is possible. Burton Park is situated in the historic town of Melton Mowbray, a thriving market town. Here patients can access local amenities such as a leisure centre, cinema, shops, restaurants and cafés to support their full rehabilitation programme.  The TDT includes full time Neuropsychologists, Psychiatrists. Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapist, Speech and Language Therapists, Social Work along with Qualified Nurses and Rehabilitation Assistants. Outcome measures are routinely collected and individual`s progress tracked.

Burton Park boasts a range of facilities utilised by the TDT and patients as they work through their specialist individual rehabilitation plan.

The role:

To provide high quality evidenced based nursing care as part of a transdisciplinary team within a neuropsychiatry environment.  As part of the trans-disciplinary team the post holder will undertake rehabilitation activities both individual and group based, and supporting the nursing delivery to a neuropsychiatry population.  

Our Rehabilitation Assistant role involves:

  • As a Rehabilitation Assistant you will be working within a transdisciplinary team that includes a range of professional.
  • An awareness of, and commitment to, the promotion of patients` rights and responsibilities, anti-discriminatory practice, equality and diversity
  • Demonstrates engagement with the patient group.
  • An awareness of the need for a consistent approach to patient care.
  • Ensure record keeping is complete and in line with the therapeutic treatment approach.
  • To participate in maintaining the physical, relational and procedural security of the service to ensure the safety of all.
  • Recognises their own role and the contribution they can make to the team as a whole
  • Takes a positive approach to the management of challenging behaviour.
  • Consistent application of the neurobehavioural approach within the units.
  • Recognises the value of care and management plans and their own responsibilities to work within these plans.
  • To engage in supervision and complete regulatory and compliance training
  • To promote independence and encourage patient involvement in their rehabilitation through effective communication and engagement.
  • Application of the therapeutic timetable as directed by the transdisciplinary team.
  • Develop and maintain a therapeutic relationship with patients within appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Undertake the role of key worker with the support of the care coordinator
  • Ensuring that core hospital policies are read.
  • Treating others with dignity, respect, honesty, integrity and fairness.
  • Acting as a positive role model and reflection of the service at all times to others.
  • Communicating effectively with the team.
  • Completion of Care Certificate
